I recently stumbled upon Ari Schaffer’s “This is not happening” page on YouTube and saw some hilarious story telling by guys like Joey Diaz, Theo Von and Ali Saddiq. I could listen to Joey Diaz tell stories about his crazy childhood all day.
I love Joe Rogan’s podcast, but his comedy is, to me, B- material.
My all time favorite would have to be Dave Chappelle. His show came out when I was in highschool and it made me laugh like nothing else had. I love how his comedy has evolved over the years.
Most memorable single performance, for me, is Eddie Murphy in delirious. ETA: it’s probably a tie between delirious and an old performance by Rowan atkitson aka Mr bean. I’m not sure what the name of the act was but it was him acting out a series of short skits on stage, many of which became mr bean episodes.
I too enjoy Russell, but, his material is a bit stale now.
Saw him waaayyyy back when he first started headlining and I was blown away by how long his set was. I think it was close to two hours, and he killed it the whole time. I left in physical pain from laughing so hard.
Back in the day Jim Carrey would blow the roof off. Not sure if he would be as popular now.
Mike MacDonald was a brilliant Canadian comedian (not to be confused with the unfunny Norm Macdonald) - his observations of summer road trips as a kid were hilarious
Eddie Murphy’s Delirious is one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard.
One of the best performances I’ve ever seen was Lenny Clarke - I had seen him a few times over the years and his act was a riot, and he could get pretty raunchy too. I saw him a few years ago at a charity event for a local college hockey player who had been paralyzed, and the player’s family (including some young nieces and nephews) were in attendance. Lenny had just started his act and was about to throw an f-bomb and suddenly caught himself, saying “Whoa! Little kids here! OK”. He then did 20-minutes that were absolutely hysterical without swearing or using any sexual references. Pretty impressive where he was able to change on the fly like that and be just as funny.
Saw Ali Saddiq at my local comedy club a few weeks ago. We laughed our asses off through his entire set. He does his home work too. Alot of his jokes where about local stuff from our area. He busted on my wife for being a little loud when talking to the waitress during one of his punch lines. It was great. Earlier in the set he asked where I was from , I was a little nervous and gave him three different locations. He reffered to me as “on the run” for the rest of the show.
We had a great time.

Who are your favorites?
I watched a lot of those a couple of months ago, very entertaining. I agree with you about Rogan. I like the long form discussions on his Podcast, but he gets old after a bit shoe-horning DMT, diet, and fighting stuff into conversations. I find his stand up to not be very good, he’s just not a funny guy even on his podcast he rarely says anything witty or funny.
Jim Jeffries, although the gun nuts will hate him
Sarah Silverman - best female comedian working today
Ali Wong
Ari Shaffir
Joey Diaz is hilarious
Lewis Black
Daniel Tosh
Anthony Jeselnick
Of course Carlin.
