All my socks are getting holes so I need new ones.
Mostly for walking and everyday wear.
I have dedicated Castelli socks for cycling.
The ones I mostly have now are Features.
They are nice but a little too thick, also I have one pair of Swiftwick that I like.
So I am looking at these:
Swiftwick aspire two (can only find in black)
Features Elite Ultra Light Quarter
Both cost $15.99 per pair which seems a little high.
I’ve really enjoyed my Feeture Elite Light Cusion Quarter socks for by cycling and running. Originally, I had the same thoughts towards the price, but I’m in the process of clearing out most of my cheapo socks and replacing with a mix of nicer ones.
Steigen brand socks are a little thinner than Swiftwicks and have a similar compressive fit as the Feetures brand. Pretty solid option in my opinion, but they are a little more expensive (like $15 USD) and their sizing doesn’t work for everyone (I think the sizing range is 5-13, but I would double check first if interested). They have a really nice performance feel and come in a variety of lengths and colors.
I’ve done my last 23 IM races in DeFeet socks without a single blister. That’s all I’ve worn for running or biking over the last 25 years except for the occasional Swiftwick, etc I have gotten as a gift. DeFeet all the way for me!
My general athletic / running socks are all Balega.
My casual socks are primary Stance for synthetic and Farm to Feet or Darn Tough for Wool.
Cycling are Swiftwick.
For cycling Castelli’s and anything from DeFeet.
For running, Balega’s top my list of all-time favorite socks. Light and very cushy. Plus the story behind their introduction more than a decade ago makes me buy them even though I don’t run anymore.

I used to wear and like Balega, but their lightweight socks now only come in no show or crew length which is too tall. I like quarter length that just goes above the ankle.
For a long time I only wore thorlos but then I switched to Swiftwick. I buy them mostly in black because if I lose one … well it’s just easier to match them up in the laundry. So anytime they are on sale or whatever I just buy a couple of pairs of the same black socks.
My biggest issue (other than the errant sock that gets eaten in the laundry) is that my kids also like my socks and so when I can’t find my socks sometimes they have slowly moved over into their sock drawers. Ha!
People rave about Smartwool. I find it hard to imagine that in Miami wool will work but people tell me I am wrong so I’ve ordered a pair and we’ll see.
For cycling, anything ankle length or maybe a bit higher, thin, and on sale.
For running, I’ve fallen in love with the Injinji socks. I use them for training, and I’d use them for Ironman tri’s and running races. Any other tri’s (ie. 70.3 and shorter) I wouldn’t use them as they take me a lot longer to put on compared to normal socks.

Feetures too thick?? Yeah you are wearing the wrong model. They are skin-tight, and easily the thinnest sock I own. Pricey-yes! But I’ve had many pairs for at least 5 years and not any signs of wear. No pulling, stretching and certainly no holes. All of the above-mentioned brands are solid, and I have and continue to use them all…but, for running, feetures are materially better in my opinion.
defeet are my favorites, I also have a new pair of Sock Guys that are OK, but a little thick which make my feet go at little numb after a while in the saddle.
I really need to pick up more defeets. I’m on my last pair now.
Basically 7" mid-calf or bust for both running and cycling is my preference. I use Swiftwicks which provide some nice support without any slip. I’m looking at a couple pairs of Sporcks because they’re colorful and fun.
I’m ashamed to admit this publicly but I love Injinji socks. Getting them on in transition would probably be next to impossible but I love riding in them.
But they are ridiculous. I’m pretty sure Injinji is Native American for ‘Fred.’
