Looking for a good running shoe to do races up to olympic distance. Anything longer than that I wear socks. Been wearing pair of original Saucony Mirage shoes for races but they are about shot. Fairly light at around 9oz with some stability. Not really looking for an extreme racing flat type of shoe and fine with a little stability like the Mirage. Not interested in Newtons and have tried Brooks T7 but just didn’t suit me. Did not like the Mirage 2. I’m not ST fast…about 20:00 for 5K run in sprint tri…plus I’m an old guy at 51. Thanks
I have been liking Asics 33 series of shoes, I run those sockless up to 10k.
Zoot.
Pearl Izumi IsoTransition. I’d also say their new EM tri line would be equally as good seeing the uppers are almost identical.
I love the Saucony Virrata and run them sockless
.
I’ve had good look with the Saucony Fasttwitches.
Saucony Kinvara isn’t terrible.
Pearl Izumi’s ALWAYS …always sockless…anything up to a 1/2
.
Saucony with socks 13 miles or more. Zoot ultra race 3.0, 6 miles or less zoot ultra trainer between 6 and 13 miles. Both sockless.
I love sockless. But when first started out only did 3 mile runs till the feet adjusted.
I found the Asics Gel DS Trainer as the best shoe to go without socks. The new sockliner is like a secondary part of the shoe and wraps around the heel with a good set of lace locks. I enjoy them for sockless!
I do all my running volume in Mirages (Mirage 3 now). For anything HIM or less I run sockless in a Saucony A4/A5 or Adidas Hagio. The New Balance MRC1600 didn’t work for me but was comfy without socks too.
The Fasttwitch is probably to be for you if you are committed to racing in a stability shoes as well.
Brooks Connect. From the first sockless run I have not had any blister problems. I usually race in the T7 but it’s a crap shoot if I’ll blister or not.
The Flow has also been good to run sockless in.
second the Saucony Virratas, sockless up to 13, feel great.
I love my Zoot Ovwa’s for all distances
.
Pearl Izumi IsoTransition. I’d also say their new EM tri line would be equally as good seeing the uppers are almost identical.
love these.
A little bit of Bodyglide goes a long way to make any of my shoes sockless.
I’ll third the Virrata’s, and second the Kinvara’s. Both have worked well for me up to around 10miles. Haven’t attempted longer sock less.
Check out the Merrell Bare Access 2. It’s a cushioned 0mm drop designed specifically for running without socks
second the Saucony Virratas, sockless up to 13, feel great.
Too bad a HIM has a 13.1 mile run…
New Balance Minimus Road Zero is what I use. It took me a while to find a show where the stitching seemed to match the contours of **my **foot best. So shop around.
