Favorite Running Sunglasses

Since I have somehow lost my sunglasses, I am in the market for a new pair. I previously had the Adidas glasses which were quite light yet they were not polarized. Curious as to others input. I have become attached to polarized lenses since there is so much less glare, yet thus far I haven’t found any that were lightweight, and fit comfortably.

I’m a big fan of the Half-Jackets…or anything else Oakley for that matter. As a former retailer I can emphatically state that Oakley stands behind their products. In the 7 years that I was an Oakley dealer I was never refused an RA (return authorization) number. That’s part of what you pay for as the consumer, a bomb-proof warranty. Anyway, the Half-Jackets are light, the lenses are removable and they fit my face well.

I’ve been waiting for a chance to bash Oakley. I had a pair that never felt right since purchasing them. After several months, I sent them back to the factory. They sent them back refusing to replace or repair them at no cost stating that the problem was the result of a “distended temple” that was my fault. I think a little benefit of the doubt on behalf of the customer would have been in order, especially since I hadn’t damaged them.

That’s gripe #1-#2 is that replacement/additional lenses can be nearly as expensive as a new pair.

I’m a devoted Rudy Project wearer now and won’t be going back.

Stan

oakley m frame. not cool, but the best most functional pair of glasses around.tones of lenses. bullet proof. light. they stay on, no matter what. nothing bad to say about them at all.the rest of oakley’s stuff i can take it or leave it. but these glasses are the bestest.

Stan, sorry to hear about your shades. I do not know if it makes any difference if you as the consumer try to send them back to Oakley or if your authorized dealer attempts to send them back. My experience (as a specialty running store and retail outlet for Oakley) was very different. Did you try to have the store send them back for you or were you contacting Oakley direct? In any business endeavor you’re not going to satisfy everyone but, at least in my experience, Oakley’s customer service hits far more than it misses. Rudy make a nice product as well.

I love my Oakleys. I had one pair that lasted 3yrs - they broke in a car accident. I just bought a new pair that I like even better.

Love my Oakley M-frames and Half Jackets. As brought up before, the M-Frame look isn’t for everyone but damn are they functional. I try and try but I keep coming back to the M-Frames for everything except cruising and non-athletic wearing out. Half Jackets are way up there too, light, less endurance sports addict looking, and 99% of the performance that M-frames offer. Plus half jacket lenses are cheaper as well, about half the price of replacement M-frame lenses. Another of my favorites is the Oakley Dartboards, pretty much a fashion version of the zero but super light and great to run in although they don’t do that well with helmets.

On the warranty issue I work at a retailer and we do some returns through our rep but most customers just send back on their own. From what I’ve seen Oakley is one of the most lenient companies out there as far as what they’ll accept back. I’ve seen glasses run over by a customer’s own car be replaced… Granted the lenses aren’t covered and it’s only free of charge replacement for the first year but that’s still pretty sweet. I sent back in my 7 year old M-frames after the frame snapped and for $19 I got a current version. Granted now I’m sponsored by them so I’m loving them even more but the sponsorship is a recent thing and I was using them for years before.

Rudys equinox SX
.

My favourites were the 0.5 circa 1999 which differed from the current ones in that they had thin, flat arms unlike the current fat, flared arms. UNfortunately, someone else at IM Austria 2000 like them too and I no longer have them :frowning:

Smith Diablo Slider Seris. Super light, and super tough with interchangable lenses.

I wear Oakelys as my “everyday” sunglasses, and use the Smiths for my workout sunglasses. I got a killer deal on them and did want to use my expensive Oakelys for sports with a chance of breaking them.

Looking to get a second pair of glasses right now, and I am again looking at Smiths. This pair has lasted 3 years, with no problems at all!!! They also make glasses big enough for my huge orange like head.

Rudy Project Ekynox SX. These are for small faces, which mine isn’t exactly - what it is, though, is long and narrow, so these glasses fit great. I have polarized grey lenses for the run, figuring they cut out all that glare and just make things all that much easier. I use the racing red flenses for the bike. I have two frames, and these two lens sets stay in just about permenantly (I sometimes switch the reds to yellows when it’s rainy or foggy). Rudy Project Kerosene is also a fine frame.

Bolle Asp (polarized) totally rock. I lost my first pair at a race and bought a second. They don’t bounce, they look great, they are light, and they cover great. Can usually be found on clearance for about 40 dollars: e.g.: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/product.asp?base_no=79030&mscssid=B60BF904CF8A4691A4EE66E07E37C998

Maui Jim’s

Great lense quality, rubber things on the nose and ear pieces so they don’t slide, and a great replacement deal. If you scratch the lense, they will replace them for $50. Not bad if your glasses are $200.

Rudy rydon: light and tough with interchangable lenses. I paid 89$ at labicicletta.com Best deal in town!!

Lance autographed Oakleys (sorry Francois).

Never felt right, but took months to send them back. Hey genius, could I interest you in an old cannondale frame. “Its really stiff” as people like to say.

lost faith in Oakley when the ditched the Blades/Razorblades line (what can I say…I’m old school). I wear their A wires because the metal isn’t as likely to break in the middle of the frame like everything else Oakley sells (and I too have a distaste for their supposed customer service). I’ll give them props for sticking by Lance during cancer but that’s about it. Sworn a blood oath to Rudy Project and their Ekynoxs…never going back now.

Ditto on the half jacket by Oakley, by far my favorites! No fogging and they last forever…

For running, I love my Eyejacket 3.0s from Oakley. They’re light, strong, etc., but they were never hugely popular, and I like the fact that they’re relatively unique for an Oakley model.

Speaking of interchangeable lenses, which color lenses are best for different conditions?
