I buy these for friends and relatives. The ones I buy for myself I jealously hide so my wife doesn’t wear them jazzafit class.
I’ve been running for fifteen years, these rule
I’ve been running for years in Target’s polyester cheapo socks. They never wear out, and I don’t have any friction issues.
That said, my wife bought me some $17 (!!) pricey Darn Tough socks (they have a lifetime warrantee, although I doubt you’d ever need it given that my Target cheapo socks haven’t worn out for 7 years) and I have to admit - they’re really soft and nice; definitely a better feel than the cheapo socks.
I always run sockless. Training, racing, all distances. Do not attempt without first spending* *a few years running shorter distances sockless or running intermittently sockless.
Asics Quick Lyte. Super leightweight and comfy, and you get three pairs for the price of one pair of balegas. I’ve tried lots of more expensive socks and I keep coming back to these.
Gotta go with almost anything made by Balega…I’ve soaked them through in sweat and rain water and almost never blistered. Of course at my first 70.3 in Austin I forgot my socks and was forced to by the Wigwams…not my favorite sock as they are a little tightly stitched around the ankle, but otherwise not too bad.
For straight running, I absolutely love injinji toe socks (though I am deeply ashamed to be seen in them shoeless). They are amazingly comfortable (the nuwool ones are best and retain comfort even when soaked). I used to get blisters and/or painful calluses around my toes but no more.
For tri, though, they take a long time to put on. Feetures are great too. I’m a huge fan of wool socks.
Though I bought a giant bag of Puma socks from Costco and have run in them and they’re surprisingly decent. If Balega are the BMW then the Puma were the Honda.
Had pretty good luck in the puma six pair packs they sell at costco for $9. I personally don’t like the expensive socks especially those with compression as they don’t allow my toes to behave naturally when landing.
