Ok, with Rappstars post on the K-Swiss and a few other folks asking…I was wondering if there was an answer to this subject that the ST brain trust could answer? (rroof???).
Looking for a fairly minimal, light, HIM or less racer. I run 37:xx to 38:xx for 10K off the bike, around low 1:20’s or so for HIM.
No injuries, and I am durable.
I have flat, narrow feet (have actually worn womens B width before:-))
Have used Saucony Fasttwitch, and I gonna try the NB RC152.
Brooks T5, Newton’s, and Adizero PR’s are my three picks. I find the Newton’s the most versatile. They feel great and I would race anything from 5k to mararthon in them w/o worrying about excess weight or insufficient cushioning. The Adizero’s I can’t wait to try in a 5k, might do a 10k, doubtfully anything longer. The Brooks I would run up to a half in and fit a bit narrower than the other two. I am also playing around a bit with the Zoot’s and really like the tri features. They may be a little lacking in forefoot cushioning for the half distance. I will probably use the Zoots for sprints and Olympics because they are the easiest to get on and off.
my favourite race shoe was something called the Nike Silver Fish. I don’t think it’s made anymore but if you can find any NOS i believe it will fit you great. i have flat feet as well and they work great. Don’t expect them to last very long though. I’m on my 4th pair now, and they usually last about 10 ODs before they’re done.
i’ve got narrow feet and have had great experience with mizuno for years, especially their distance flat. also good is reebok, if you can find them,
I’ve got wicked flat feet and rock the mizuno universes. Don’t do anything longer than oly in them, they’ve got zero support, but may actually last two seasons.
do you overpronate? if so, little or a lot? some of those shoes listed are great, but damn if their midsoles arent made of jello.
i am flat, narrow footed, and overpronate. i like the t5’s but i need at least SOME support, even in a flat. i have been using the brooks st3’s for about 8mo’s with good success.
i may be the anomoly…i weigh about a buck 45 also, but a slight degree of curve in my tibias place and cause an amount of pronation in my step. i would kill to wear a super light flat; i hate feeling like i am getting ready to be hooked up to a carriage…plodding around in shoes to correct my ankle cave.
i am actually considering getting the newton stabillity trainers to force myself to run more on the ball of my foot, as a tool to correct any heel striking, but will save that for its own topic and avoid a hijack…
I actually am racing the Sat after they are due:-)
Polarbear? I like that swim course
As for shoes… I’d go with a pair of ruby red slippers. In T2, you could tap your heels together and say “there’s no place like home” three times, and you’d magically be at the finish line…
Just remember in the NST to make sure that there are no abnormal decelerations; and if there are, make sure that you have an ultrasound right then…DO NOT WAIT A DAY. Are you guys delivering via c-section?
