Picked up a Ritchey Torqkey a few weeks ago and it was the best $20 I have spent this year.
For those who have not heard of it, the Torqkey is a small torque 4mm hex key using an M4 bit and pre-set to 5Nm. Ideal for tightening carbon bits (seatposts, handlebars, etc.) without the fear of over-tightening and cracking your precious carbon bits.
Great for travelling and small enough to carry for on-the-fly adjustments.
This tool should be included with every carbon frame sold preset to the recommended torque setting. e.g. 4Nm for Cervelo.
Disclaimer: none needed. I paid full price for it and have no affiliation with Ritchey.
Anyone else have a favorite cheap gadget to recommend?
I have never used a torque wrench for my bike setup, but since I just bought a carbon tri frame, I am thinking on buying one a.s.a.p.
Will this Ritchey Torqkey do (up to 5nm) or will I have to also buy a higher torque wrench? I guess it will most likely be used to adjust stem, bars, seat post, seat, …what else?
torque specs vary by manufacturer and by component. 5Nm will work in a pinch for handlebars and stems, but you’ll want an adjustable one for things like seatposts, saddle and especially for the bottom bracket.
I agree with you as to the benefit of the Torqkey. I have one and use it with handlebars and other parts.
But, as JP said, having a smaller adjustable one is a very god idea. There is and Italian branded one (The exact name escapes me right now) that is on almost eveyone’s list.

GuistaForza? About $185 at REI.
