Favorite Heart Rate Monitors?

I just did my first triathlon (half IM–why not start big) and finished feeling good enough to start thinking about the next training system. I’d like to see what everyone likes about their HRM and what they don’t like about them and what make/model you’d recomend or wish you’d bought. I’m looking for triathlon training but if a seperate cycling computer is better than an all in one, I’m okay with that. Thanks for your input.

I love that my Timex has a 30 lap memory so I can get my swim, T1, bike, T2, run splits, as well as all my laps for speed training, and my time/HR/max HR/minHR with each of them. I also love that it’s not totally gigantic (I have small wrists). I don’t love that I have to put lotion on the sensors before I put it on because they don’t read very well. They might have fixed this by now.

I have 2 polar HRM’s and I have had to send both back to the manufact. at some point.

i have the nike triax C8. has every option i really need and i have never had any problems. works for splits in the pool (50 lap memory) and will store loads of workouts for analysis and split intervals.

no complaints

My gf and I both have Polar S710i’s. Great HRM with all the bells and whistles, HR, spd, cad, alt. The ability to download makes a big difference. You can go back and actually see what your HR was doing during a workout or race, not just try to remember when it started climbing etc. Having altitude really helps highlight the effect of hills.

I agree with the comments on the 710i’s, I have used a 720i for 2 years and I love it. Being able to download a work out is a great tool.

Wait for the new Polar RS200SD that is out now in Europe and due here this month or next - very nice if you don’t need the cycling part (who doesn’t have a separate bike computer). MUCH smaller than the huge 624, 710, etc.

Has a 3 line display: heart rate, current speed (from foot sensor) and elapsed time or distance run - perfect.

Will be around $200

since i have only one…guess it has to be my favorite. most earlier posts reference higher end HRM’s.

all i want and need is the simple HR readout and a couple other basics. i got the low end monitor from Nashbar. it has performed without issue for about 3 years it was on sale, and with shipping was a touch over $40.00. i looked a minute ago and they have a similar model on sale now at well under $40.00.

Polar S720. got it for around $245 after price matching and cupon codes at performance bikes and got performance points on the purchase.
