Thinking of getting a pair of pedals, but as an owner of a pair of Powertap pedals, one of my concerns is durability. My original set of PT pedals were replaced under warranty due to a seized bearing, and those replacements went 6 to 8k miles before seizing again. Sending into SRAM for a bearing service is a hit on time (1 to 2 weeks) and $$ ($125 or so). The PT bearings can’t be accessed by the user, necessitating a vendor service. I see Favero sells a bearing kit, which is awesome. Puts all the servicing on me and my clock. But what sort of service intervals have users experienced? How many miles are you getting before the bearings go bye bye?
I went 2yrs and 20.000km, but that was way too far. I was unable to get the bearings out of the pedal bodies Luckily you can buy new bodies relatively cheap.
Note: I used the pedals winter and summer; road and gravel.
I am now planning a yearly replacement
I had several sets of P1 pedals that were replaced under warranty because of bearing wear at about 5K miles. Switched to Assuima pedals about 4K miles ago, so no longevity data yet. However, the Assioma bearings are user serviceable, and they promise a longer life. So, they are doubly better.
I can’t answer your question directly but can tell you I’ve got just over 2,000 miles on my hacked Assioma Duo pedals that I use on my gravel bike. They even survived the epic mud of LandRun this year. They were still going strong when I had to pull the plug around 62 miles into the race. Still going strong today.
Thanks all. And wash your bike!
I’ll take you word that there are some Assiomas under there … somewhere.
