Fat Rabbit 1/2 IM near Columbus, OH any thoughts?

Looking to do a 1/2 IM as a prep race for IM Wisconsin, this race fits the bill for timing 5 weeks out, and driving distance to North Carolina.

It looks like it is a first year race. Does anyone have any insights on the race?

Thanks,

RF

I’ve done a Fat Rabbit race (not this one) and was very happy with their organization.

This should be a good race. It takes place pretty much on my home training area.

The swim will actually cross the lake in a point to point swim. Busses will take you from the transition area to the swim start.

The bike will go through a very nice area to ride, some rollers but no real climbs. Roads are in good shape and pretty scenic.

The run will be a mix of state park and residential. Again, no hills to speak of.

Craig, Scott, and FRR consistently do a good job of putting on races. This race is almost making me rethink my aversion to doing mid-Summer halfs.

I am planning on doing that. i am doing one of their shorter races in june, I can let you know how that goes! I know one of the organizers, it seems like it will be well ran…

Joe,

I thought the fun we had at white lake qualifies as mid summer races!

Thanks for the insights.

Peace,

RF

Thanks Marisol,

Please let us know how the shorter race in June goes.

Thx,

RF

I’ve also done one of their races and they do a terrific job putting it together. I’m a fan of the point to point swim with no turns, should be a fast swim. I’m also considering doing it, but I’ll wait and see how I feel after my HIM in mid-July.

I am in for this one and the shorter one in June Marisol is doing. I have volunteered at one of their races last year, and the race director is very active in the area. They work hard at putting on a great event. They put on Powerman Ohio this year and I have heard very good things about that.

Rockfish - come on up to the Whirlpool Steelhead Triathlon on August 6th. We have a great 1/2 course and will have plenty of Slowtwichers in the race. Go to www.steelheadtriathlon.com for information and to sign up for the event. Hope to see you in Michigan. Z

Tom,

Thanks for the heads up on the race and the invite. Steelhead looks like a great race, but its 800 miles away and I am trying to do a drive to race to keep logistics (bike transport, cost, time away from work & family) easy. Just got back from Disney and will be traveling again in Sept for Moo.

Columbus at 400 miles away I can drive up Sat, one night away, race Sunday and drive home Sunday. Thanks to the insights the others gave the race is run by a pretty good RD so it looks like a good race to prep for IM Moo.

Peace,

RF
