I purchased and used the latest Zoot tri suit for IM Cairns a week and a half ago and by the the best suit I have ever worn for fit, comfort and functionality. I have never come away from an IM with no chaffing like I did with this suit. The little ice pocket on the neck is a nice touch in the heat.

Second for Zoot. I have their high end suit and it’s awesome. I just did an XTERRA in it and it was fantastic

Second for Zoot. I have their high end suit and it’s awesome. I just did an XTERRA in it and it was fantastic

Cool, I do have a zoot tri suit – lower end. Basically everything I have owned gets holes in it. The only one that has help up is the SL3S suit that I got for cheap on amazon.

I am also considering the Castelli

Take it to the wind tunnel, chung method, on bike aero sensor

Three that I have used that fit ME the best in this order:

  1. Huub Anemoi +. This was the fastest on the bike and easy to swim and run in. (Best)
  2. Orca RS1 Kona: This was the fastest on the swim. Fast on the bike but not as comfy as the Huub (Good, close 2nd)
  3. Pearl Izumi: This was most comfy to run in but the slowest on the bike and hard on the junk. (not so good, meh)

A BIG thing to consider is what conditions you are going to race in. If its a hot race just know that all tri-suits are not created equal when dealing with the heat. Some are just down right hot.

Wind tunnel testing isn’t an option for me. Nor is it worth it. I am just not that good.

I tend to race in the summer, so heat is almost always a factor for me. I do not do well with heat, unfortunately.

Something that is slippery on the bike will be the biggest premium for me. I am not a high power guy and make most of my gains by holding a very aero position.

I have the Zoot Tokyo Blue that I got for around $130. It’s the best suit I’ve ever used in terms of aero fit, comfort, and style. I actually forget I’m wearing it. I’m 5’8" and I’m in a men’s small. I know they’re sold out of that specific suit, but anything they have on clearance is a steal. They have custom options too for $225 last time I looked, which is an amazing price point imo.

You asked which suit is fastest and got a load of junk back.

In summary from my research, I haven’t seen anything that suggests otherwise of the following.

1 - Endura SST
2 - Castelli PR
3 - Bioracer

Problems.

  • not much available data comparing the more recent suits from Ryzon, Orca, Roka etc vs the above
  • wind tunnel tests are largely by pro athletes that already have a suit sponsor or indeed part funded by same. So they either don’t have access or cannot compare to the other brands (competitors)
  • fit matters and our bodies may affect wind flow differently depending on position
  • we may be talking about seconds here or minutes its not clear
  • need a wind tunnel test of suits and the data to be made available. Kile Yay where are you… ?

Realistically, go for whichever one you like the best and that fits you the best.
Price is a factor also as is customisation or the team or club you may be a part of.

I actually sort of have access to a real world comparison I must do in the coming month or two.
Would need to do all on same course, same time, hope for same winds and same power to get actual data. That’s not easy either.

So, which one do you have access to, like the look of and happy to pay the price of? 😀😁😁😁

/not pink…

Heck what race even ever?
Perhaps Roth that time he got the record.
I was there that year and witnessed the draft benefit from the moto myself so wouldn’t count that either.

I had no issues with the Huub Anemoi in hot & humid conditions

ETA: I did find the gripper at the biceps almost too constricting on the run…and I have really tiny biceps.

Anemoi is great; comfortable, good in heat and proven aero. Just rubbish if you like pockets.

Yep

We are all different snowflakes… What is a great suit / helmet / position combo for one, could be very average for some one else.

For reference, few years back, i remember seeing a news report when team Sky had a team of seamstress to fit Frome into his suit just before a TT at the tour… and that is also why the some team pursuit (track) have different helmets.

If you are buying online and you have limited limited budget (like me), pick the one that has the favorite colors (with textured material on the shoulder)…

But if you really want the ‘faster’, for you… it’s going to cost you a little fortune to figure out.
