It’s so individualized. The fastest aero bars are ones that allow someone to stay in aero longer in a position they can consistently put out high watts. Obviously that’s dependent on various factors. Even some people in the most aero position possible with the most aerodynamically efficient bars might take a comfort penalty that causes them to drop watts. Wind tunnel tests can’t always replicate the conditions on course. It always seems like one of those things that matching a skilled fitter with expendable income could eventually solve for a single individual.
I’ll add that having testes a lot of bars they are all pretty close. I switched from the Profile Aeria to the tririg. They tested so close to each other I did a fist pump because i didn’t make my bike slower.
I will say a lot of the newer shaped extensions have increased the A part of CdA. It’s a mixed bag and I’m often finding people who’ve spent $1000+ be as comfy or more comfy but also 2-5w slower with the larger shaped parts.
The real question then becomes is it worth it over your race distance?
Thanks for that - it’s the feedback I was hoping for
I’m planning to have a run at masters National TT in 2025 - not super worried about adding comfort as an hour is fine on my current bars
Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t leaving speed on the table w my older tririg bars
In the next couple weeks I’ll start to do my own testing and will try w the pads higher / lower (at least as high as I can go w these). I may try to get a new set of very angled bars - mostly because that’s a very cheap swap
Canadian ? I could never get clarity on this. One rider claims he was checked.
Last year they said this
The Canadian Road Championships (Masters) is a CC CN class road event governed by Cycling Canada and will be held in accordance with UCI & CC regulations. It is the responsibility of the
rider to know the rules.
• Equipment regulations will be enforced for all categories in the Canadian Championships.
edit : I checked in the forum for our local bike club with several members who have done Nats. They say bikes are put through the jog for example. Better safe than sorry and get written confirmation from CC. For example Bryan’s pads would NOT be allowed.
Does it add to the system frontal area though? Forearms should be well within the shadow of the rider’s body when viewed front on. Even with a large mono bar like Ditlev uses.
Two pretty significant differences I see in those positions is, One, the distance between the hands and the face, and Two, how much further forward Kristian is over the bb.
