Fast rides and good shops in Albuquerque

Hello Slowtwitch,
I’ll be visiting Albuquerque early May and am interested in finding fast weeknight road or cross rides that I might be able to join. I would also like a recommendation for a bike shop that might loan out road/cross bikes (I’ll be bringing my quarq along).

Thanks for any tips.

Reaper ride…

Reaper ride…

yep.

Try Sport Systems or High Desert for rentals. I haven’t personally rented from either place, but they are the most likely to have bikes of the caliber you are looking for on a rental basis.

there’s also hawks tri cycle - its new and I’ve never been but I’ve heard good things - dont know if they do rentals.

The Reaper Ride would certainly fit the bill for ‘fast’, but it starts a little after Noon on Tue/Thurs, so I don’t know if that fits your schedule.

You could check NMCycling.org: http://www.nmcycling.org/grouprides.html for a ride to see if it fits the bill.

Also in May the Wednesday night Crits start: http://www.nmcycling.org/app/?action=CalendarYearView Don’t know if you are actually looking to race.

Regarding loaner bikes, you could also check out Fat Tire Cycles: http://www.fattirecycles.com/

These are all great, thanks for the suggestions!

How long is the reaper ride usually? The link doesn’t give much of a description, I’m guessing I know the reason why… 1-2hr or 3-4ish? It is true, a mid-day ride doesn’t work especially well, but this one does sound good.

It is only out to the Tijeras Post office and back, could be very fast depending on who (Calvert) is pulling the group. It is in the 1-2ish group and closer to 1 than 2, but you could easily add on miles going up and down Tramway if needed. It has a very wide shoulder and is perfect for cycling. Have fun, I miss living in ABQ!

Yup, If Damian, Marty and those guys are there, expect it to hurt. I miss ABQ bad…

Can a cat 3 type hang, or am I better off getting more work in before giving it a go?
