Need a fan for my pain cave.
I want a fan that will really blow ;-).
Seriously - it gets hit in the room and I’d like recommendations on what industrial strength one to get.
Thanks!

Do you want a legitimate fan or are you willing to pay someone?
If you need a real fan, you’ll probably need to get involved in some pretty extreme PR efforts. It will help a lot if you are very charismatic, very attractive, very wealthy or a combination of these. It seems that if you can get your picture in a few trashy magazines and on TV a couple of times, fans don’t worry too much what you actually do.
A couple of other pointers:
Calling it a pain cave may attract groupies or weirdos rather than fansIf you’re willing to pay for a fan and you’re requesting that the fan will really blow, this may amount to solicitation. Careful! This seems a bit narcissistic but nevermind and don’t worry what anyone else thinks. If you get a fan you really like it’ll make you want to ride more. Best of luck

Over the past 20 years I’ve tested dozens of fans with a precision anemometer. By far and away the highest velocity output came from a Lasko fan that Sam’s sells them for $65.00. On high it will output an easily directed 36mph blast. In comparison, the other fans mentioned so far output less than a 20mph zephyr .
This baby will cartwheel loose objects across the room.

Another vote for the Vornado 293.
I also have a Vornado that I love.
It is relatively quiet but still packs a great breeze.
But is air velocity the most important factor?
This might do the job, but airflow velocity alone doesn’t tell me that.
For the same motive power you can have a small jet of high velocity air, a large body of slow moving air or anything in between. In terms of comfort, noise and cooling effect, I suspect you want something in the middle of the range. You definitely want good coverage of your entire upper body and preferably some airflow over your legs too.
Just head over to Home Depot. They likely have one like this in stock.

Over the past 40 years of using probably 3 dozen different fans with indoor trainers it’s my experience that the air velocity combined with the ability to aim the airflow are the most important factors. Set one on a tall stand and blast it through your chest/neck/head region while riding in the aero position. You’ll be amazed at how cool you stay.

+1
x3 on the Lasko blower (there are other brands too).
Like the other big fans, it moves a large volume of air. But the speed adds a whole other element which makes it the best. Along with setting up some serious air currents in a small room, that 30+ mph blast makes for a huge psychological boost. It feels like you are riding fast outside. Actually, if you are not using earphones for music, it even sounds like you are riding fast outside with the wind blast going by your ears.

x3. I have one and it’s great
Lasko 655650 with Remote Control.
This specific one is nice because 1) you can get a bracket to wall mount it, but it’s just matter of lifting it off to put it on the floor. I have this tucked right under my tv mounted halfway up the wall. The direction is more right at you than under you which is nice. 2) It has a remote. I won’t use a fan without a remote anymore.
I have a Lasko I got at BJ’s for about $40 (maybe?). Looks like that Stanley one with the remote that someone posted. Agree with the other posters who said that whatever you get, make sure it has a remote. My only other tip is to keep the remote away from any bored pit bulls you may have in your home.
Re: Lasko Blower -
How wide does the air flow expand? i.e. the pics look like it is a focused blast - do you need other fans? Is the blower something that I can put up front and blow my face and body off?
BTW - the previous post on being charismatic, etc. wins CoD for this thread IMHO.
