Is this an old-guy thing? We used to make fun of my dad for falling asleep while watching TV. Now, it must be my turn. There are times that I will sit down with my wife to watch Youtube in the evenings, and I will fall asleep within 1-2 minutes. Last night I think it was about 20 seconds. And this was probably somewhere between 7:30 and 8:00.
Now, if we’re watching something really interesting I can stay awake. I don’t have problems staying awake if I’m working or even doing something on the computer. But as soon as I sit down in front of the TV and kick up the recliner - chances are good that I will be out like a light.
I’m in my 50’s and most nights I fall asleep watching/listing to Youtube. I’ve mostly been listening to a “sleepy time” reading of The Hobbit for months now, and probably aren’t even a quarter of the way through it. Puts me to sleep in minutes.
I fell asleep Saturday night about 9:30 while my girlfriend had her head on my shoulder watching a movie. She didn’t say much except she woke me up when it ended and told me to go to bed, which I gladly did.
61 here and I fell asleep for a bit on Saturday night watching TV with my better half. Got on the couch and midway through The Traitors UK I was out, but only for a few minutes. Happens quite often, glad I am not the only one.
I’m 54, I can have every intention of watching a game or movie, but will nod off at some point. And god help me if I’ve had a beer, it’s definitely lights out.
and fall asleep every night with TV on, I set the timer so it’ll turn off 15-30 minutes after my head hits the pillow.
If I’m on the loveseat couch thing in our master bedroom watching TV, I will drift off into sleepland.
In fact yesterday afternoon, I scanned channels and noted that there were 3 overlapping events I could catch the endings of… Paris-Nice cycling, Man U vs. Leicester soccer, F1 racing from Australia.
I missed/dozed in and out of all 3!
I blame the couch thing. So comfy.
Edit - Not in my 60’s and I don’t think I’m old - despite what my kids think.
Fine! You caught me. I wasn’t having sex when I got the leg cramps, I was sleeping. But sometimes sleeping is as good as sex, so they’re basically the same thing. And my naps last longer than 5 minutes.
I’m mid 50’s but never fall asleep on the couch. My wife on the other hand, falls asleep every night. I’m usually in bed reading, I’ll hear the remote fall off the couch, battery cover comes off and the batteries scatter. About a minute later I hear her get the remote back together, TV goes off and she comes up to bed. I’d say a good 5-6 nights a week.
I’m 41. It takes me around 3 evenings to watch a single episode of something. It drives my wife nuts.
I stopped going to movies in my mid 20s because I could never make it through them. Just seemed like a waste of time and money.
I’m a busy person. I have a physically demanding career, I exercise all the time and I’m on my feet most days from 5am until late. If I sit down in a comfy chair in a dark room, it’s over. I don’t stand a chance.
Mid-40’s checking in.
About 2x a week, I fall asleep in my office watching tv while my wife reads to our son. Typically 730-745.
If we watch a movie on the weekends at night, there is a 75% chance I will pass out we start it past 630. 100% chance if she sits next to me.
A sleep disorder specialist sent me home with a box and a bunch of sensors to wear to bed one night. My blood oxygen percentage was dropping into the 80s when I was sleeping. Diagnosed with Apnea and prescribed a CPAP machine. That was about 5 years ago and I’ve been sleeping with it ever since. Since then I can sit in boring meetings or watch TV without dozing even if I’m tired.
