We had a 20 year old fake tree that when setting up this year only half the lights would illuminate. We definitely got our monies worth, so it was off to Lowes and got a shiny new fake tree, hopefully lasts another 20 years.
I refuse to get a fake tree. My wife would like one but I just can’t do it. Dad was a forester and we went and cut ours every year. I just can’t let that tradition go for some reason. Love the smell and feel of a real tree. Not fond of the mess but I don’t mind it much.
We actually go and cut one every year after school lets out too. But only keep it for right around Christmas. The fake one is usually up Dec1 til early Jan.
I do love the Charlie Brown one we cut and decorate. But I also love the lights of the fake one during the long nights of December and into the New Year.
I much prefer a real tree. But I also want a 12’ tall tree. A real tree that size would be mucho expensive and monstrously huge. The whole house would be covered in sap.
This was me 20+ years ago. Both sides of my family worked in the logging industry, I started down the path myself. Back on the point, my wife and I prefer real trees but when our daughter was very young she developed an allergy to them, broke out in hives, so we gave that year’s tree to a young family and picked up our first fake from Home Depot.
We toyed with the idea of a real tree this year but opted for another fake since we no longer have a stand or strings of lights. I could see us doing a real tree eventually.
Yes, we have a pretty nice costco tree that was handed down to us, when that one needs replacing, I will be ordering from Balsam Hill. They are as close to a real tree as you can find and anyone you talk to with one will say how easy they are to set up and nice they look.
That said, I really like real trees, but the hassle isn’t worth it to me.
I’m nervous about buying a prelit tree because if they go out you have to cut them off or replace the tree. Has anyone had a good experience with the lights on a prelit tree lasting for a long time?
