Experience with Proform Boston Marathon Treadmill?

Anybody have experience with the Boston Marathon Treadmill?

It has a couple of unique features. It does a 6% decline and 20% incline. It has a 15 mph top speed. It has an incorporated 10 inch Android device to do preprogrammed workouts.

I have heard that Proform has improved their manufacturing and are using Ikon fitness which also makes the Nordic Track treadmills.

Just looking at it, might have the tallest “stack height” in the industry. Definitely need some high ceilings if you’re tall.

Fortunately not limited by ceiling height in my workout room and I can tell you that it isn’t that much more than a Woodway.

I should add that I am well aware of the horrible customer service comments pro form has received in the past but supposedly they improved those as well.

I would be surprised if no one on this forum had one of these treadmills or had a chance to try one out.

By far the best treadmill I have ever run on. Note: I have never run on a Woodway.

Best purchase I made last year. I do all of my running on the treadmill, and had only owned treadmills that went up to 12mph, so never ran any faster than that. My body is soaking up being able to finally run faster. Prior to this I had the NordicTrack C1750. This things blows that treadmill away. They have the same size motor, but this one is significantly quieter. Even at 13-14mph, the motor makes very little sound. I have it on the springiest setting the deck will go, so that makes quite a bit of sound, but I don’t think you will find a treadmill that doesn’t make some sound at 12mph+.

Controls are great. One touch increments starting at 3mph all the way up to 15mph, increasing by 0.5mph. Goes up and down to speed very quickly as well. Very similar to actual running. If I want to start an interval I hit the speed I want 0.02mi before I want to be running the particular speed, and it is at the speed by the time it hits the number.

Another huge perk is that the motor is under the deck and faces down. It is completely enclosed and closed off from the deck. The problems I have had in the past with treadmills is that the motor is in front of the deck and so your sweat is constantly flying off the belt into the motor compartment.

I highly recommend this treadmill if you are a serious runner. I have got almost 800 miles on it now and have not had any problems. Though, anytime I have had a problem in the past with an Icon Fitness treadmill, they have been very good about fixing them.

This is one of those items that you get what you pay for. If you don’t do much running over 10 or 11 mph, this thing might be overkill. But, even if you don’t do much running at these speeds, but do sweat a lot / do high volume, then I still would recommend this treadmill.

Oh yes, and it weighs about 450lbs. I had a person on every corner trying to get this thing into the house and it was still challenging. It is very awkward to carry. So, I would highly recommend having someone else set it up for you.

Well hard to get a better recommendation than the previous one ;). I have had this treadmill for about a year and have really liked it as well. Since sanders pointed out all the good things I’ll point out a couple of the downsides.

Grade adjustments is slow (though that’s not necessarily a bad thing) it is awesome to have -6 to 20 range.

The iFIT system is a bit of a pain. If you want to create workouts it’s a closed system (though working on some options)

I can not find a CSAFE port for potentially adding the new wahoo control unit.

That being said like sanders said it has been super solid and the motor is great. Speeds ramp up really fast so intervals are no problem. Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks Lionel and Mrcooper. I appreciate it. Wish there was a Csafe plug because I would like to use the Wahoo unit to preprogram workouts and export them after completion complete with elevation data.

Here is a sight I found that converts your ifit workouts to downloadable .tcx files. Not sure it’s super secure but it works well since there aren’t really any other options I have seen.

That’s Icon Fitness and they are notorious for making cheap fitness equipment and by cheap I mean both in price and in quality.

Honest question - did you buy this treadmill yourself?

I’m not at all implying you’re shilling for their TM - I know you’re a diehard serious TM user, and your results are awesome! I’m just honestly surprised if no treadmill company hasn’t decided to sponsor you yet given that you’re well known to be a top triathlon runner and as well an avowed TM user - if I owned a TM company, you’re the first person I’d call to sponsor! =)

Well thanks. I hope you buy a treadmill company one day! I did pay for this treadmill, though they did give it to me at wholesale price. It’s actually quite difficult to get a treadmill sponsorship. I did try, but wholesale was the best I could get. Woodway for instance has a strict no sponsorship policy. They do have a “pro price” but it is still astronomical.

Thanks for the review and the great info. Keep up the amazing work -I’m rooting for you 110%!!

I know this wasn’t directed to me but got mine for ~1k (used) which I figured was probably an Ok deal given the motor (top speed) and how solid it feels (as sanders said it is like 450 pounds). The video workouts are basically useless, but a buddy did figure out how to send a workout to iFIT today. It still requires iFIT but at least you can create the workout outiside their interface.

To the original treadmill question I might still wait for a wahoo equipped model if there is one that fits your needs. There is a lot of potential there.
