Does anyone have experience with performance analysis with Dartfish or Sportscode for activities such as running gait analysis? Please share your opinions on the most up to date versions of these programs. TYIA!
I had a dartfish gait analysis once. Nothing to compare against but I thought it wa cool how they synced up my gait from four different angles and were able to measure things such as how far my right hip dropped, how high/far back my heels kicked up, etc.
Was useful in identifying weakness in my glutes as the root cause for lower leg issues I was having (more stress being put on lower legs use to weak glutes)
Thanks! Yes, love your response and I’m wanting to do this exactly plus even more: I want to use a program to analyze gait along with measuring biofeedback. I am combining the techniques to provide additional fine tuning for muscle firing that may not be (i.e. likely is not) apparent without the combination of these tools.
Glad to hear you enjoyed your experience.
Full Disclosure, I do work for Siliconcoach.com, however, I think I can have some input here.
There are basically 2 types of video analysis systems, technique and match (notational). Of course there are crossovers but philosophically match analysis systems like Sportscode are usually used to look at statistics like the number of passes, number of missed passes, possession, turnovers, etc. Once these events have been ‘tagged’ into the software the system can report back with videos on all the missed passes or all the turnovers for example. Dartfish also has a match analysis system in their suite.
Technique analysis systems like Siliconcoach Pro, Motion Pro, and another of Dartfish’s applications are designed to look at a particular skill, for example running, cycling, passing, throwing, swimming etc. For cycling, running and triathlon a technique analysis system is the usual choice.
One other thing to consider is that Sportscode is Mac only and all others mentioned above are Windows only although Siliconcoach Live, which is web based, works in the browsers of both Macs and Windows computers.
Full Disclosure, I do work for Sportstec, however, I think I can also add here.
Sportscode is typically used as a match analysis system. Most of our clients utilize the software to do live tagging of competition and practice situations. But there are also technique tools like drawing overlays, angle measurements, multi-frame comparisons, still image insertion, etc. Many of our clients use this functionality in combination with practice analysis. A good example is a national level cricket academy that uses overhead cameras to carefully measure and then train proper shoulder angle for bowlers. They also use the same software to look at match analysis.
There are many excellent video tools available. The best tool is one that accomplishes your goal and fits your budget. Although a careful look at different tools may uncover capabilities that will make a larger impact on your organization’s capabilities.
I’m still working with this project (shelved it for a while and recently came back to finish it!!!)
Can sportscode and dartfish use gopro hero3 cameras as inputs? Or are there other cameras we should consider? Really appreciate your advice.
