Anyone else experience this. You book a trip through expedia, all looks good, decent price. Then once booked the Hotel sends you an email with extra charges you are expected to pay.
I got this in an email after I booked…WTF!!
A one-time departure cleaning fee and a $45.00 non-refundable damage waiver are due at the time of registration. Departure cleaning fees vary by unit size:
Went to the Bahamas in the Spring and had booked Air and Hotel through Travelocity. After booking, I was seeing online reviews about the hotel saying the reviewers were surprised by fees upon checking out. $15 per day per person for electricity and $5 per day per person for maid service. $80 per day for 4 that was not included in what we thought our budget was. Called Travelocity to see if those fees were already included in the package. Nope.
I would call the credit card company and try to get your cancelation fee refunded. That’s total bait and switch bullshit. Hotel probably makes good bank off cancelation fees (expedia has never charged me a cancelation fee so that was the hotel also).
Do everyone a favour and give that hotel a review on Expedia telling this issue. I read a lot of the reviews before I book and generally have had no issues.
The only after the fact I ever got from a hotel, was to call them directly next time, and they would give me a better deal.
but the fees are already listed on expedia’s listing… hey, it’s scammy (because it makes comparison between hotel prices impossible), but it was disclosed before you booked.
Fees
Unless otherwise indicated, the charges below are not included in the overall room price. If not included in the overall room price, they will be charged by the property at check-in or check-out. Charges can vary, for example, based on length of stay or the room you book. This property told us they will charge you for the following:
Destination fee: USD 45 per accommodation, per stayCleaning fee: USD 120 per stay, varies per unit size
We booked in Europe for some of our hotels on our trip through Expedia. They were upfront that the local tax of 2-4 Euros per person per night would have to be paid on check out. These fees seem a bit outrageous though. Good thing you told the hotel to pound sand.
