You may have heard Team EMJ is no more. As I understand because they lost EMJ as a sponsor. Any idea what the guys on the team plan on doing? It was a rather unique model in the US having a team supporting high performing age groupers. Our team tries to fill that void too with incentives for high performers.
Will there be another stick up their ass team who thinks they’re better than everyone now that Every Man Jackoff is done?
I believe Roka Multisport took over the team
Wow, does your therapist know that you have these abusive feelings?
I would say “self care is health care” butt you seem to think negatively, and quite harshly
/pink
You mean as opposed to the other triathletes that are typically a pain in the ass, have a seat post sized stick up their ass, and think they’re better than everyone else right?
Cool, just making sure we’re on the same page.
Must be an American thing, every triathlete I’ve ever met have been super friendly and relaxed as!
Your position is that, in a sport that generally requires a type-A personality and higher income levels, ONLY Americans are the stick up the ass cocky type?
Mmkay
No, my position is every triathlete Ive ever met from multiple Kona/AG winners to 16 hour finishers have been very friendly, welcoming and relaxed. Seems to be mainly an American thing to complain about ‘stick up the arse cocky’ types…?
A type doesn’t mean arsehole…
The only thing that is fairly accurate here is that generalizations are just that. Maybe that and the fact that you said every single triathlete you’ve ever met has been friendly and that seems very biased.
I’ve also met a ton of triathletes and am one myself and I’m not afraid to say that many of them are cocky and have a chip on their shoulder. Kind of like the stereotypical crossfitter jokes. And I’ve met triathletes from multiple countries and have also met quite a few of the EMJ guys.
One of us is saying every single one they’ve met has been dandy. The other is saying that there are also assholes in the bunch and that stereotypes exist for a reason. And I’m sorry to say that despite American’s being jackasses, that is not mutually exclusive to the meat between Canada and Mexican buns.
If you truly believe only American triathletes are cocky and stuck up then …

Maybe that and the fact that you said every single triathlete you’ve ever met has been friendly and that seems very biased.
I don’t understand your problem, yes everyone I have met have been great, wether it be the tri club or when racking the bike on race day. Sure there are arse holes but I’ve been lucky enough to avoid them so far
As for stereotypes maybe it’s the Americans that have one for a reason? Aussies have a laid back friendly stereotype for a reason also
There’s a saying that if everyone else is an asshole then you’re the asshole. So the corollary must be if everyone else is a nice guy, then you’re a nice guy.
I didn’t even know that was still a thing, I would have thought they died in the COVID period.
I never really got the concept of an age grouper triathlon team with people spread all over. Seems more like social club for faster people, but the same results can be achieved training totally solo
I can see an age grouper club that gets people together locally for swims, rides, runs, and other social functions many times a week. For example, my interactions with the TriDubai club have been awesome when I have visited Dubai with club members taking me for rides and taking me to group workouts. From time to time I have seen them at races in North America and Europe and thanked them.
A higher performance distributed group of age groupers in some kind of an exclusive club, I don’t see the point of that. It’s not like triathlon is a team sport like pro cycling.
I guess their big gig is getting together at races and camps with the same kit.
But it seems groups like the ST Goodlife racing is more open to the all types of people.
At the front of every AG race in IM and 70.3 on the west coast - it was usually 1/2 EMJ it seemed.
Most of the teams are built around brands where people buy kit generally built around a personality. I was guilty of this being on the Hit Squad and that just got really dumb. Was a cool team at 200ish people but my second and third year when Wattie Ink expanded the Elite team, moved the Hit Squad to like 1000 people, and then added a gravel team…before the partnership imploded…it was clear that it was a money grab built around Heather’s personality. It shifted to this thing called Plush and then Heather apparently ghosted that team.
So that’s where teams like Zoot which are not built around a personality are decent. But again, it still screams a bit of a way to generate revenue, then brand awareness.

Recently? Definitely from like 2017-2019.

Wow, a fair amount of negativity to start the post.
Every Man Jack is/was a pretty elite team. There are guys on there who probably could have their pro card and some that do (Justin Riele). They have a guy on the team who trains with Gwen Jorgensen. I’m not offended or off-put by the fact that they were all super good at triathlon. I don’t think I ever had a negative interaction with one of them. Were they probably type A and took triathlon pretty seriously? Sure, but there are plenty of those people finishing in the middle and back of the pack as well.
I am sometimes perplexed by the holier than thou vibe of some slowtwitch threads. If people want to take triathlon seriously, who cares? People want triathlon to be the sole thing that makes them interesting? Okay. People want to wear the finishers t-shirts to the grocery store? Cool, maybe we’ve done the same race as each other. I don’t know why we’re so concerned about others choices and decisions. Don’t want to be on a tri-team? You don’t have to be, probably a majority of any age-group race aren’t.
Yeah, I definitely wasn’t in the running to ever be considered for Every Man Jack. I did buy their products because I thought it was cool that they supported the sport and I will no longer because they pulled the money out of the sport.
It’s cool that Roka has taken over the team and I’m sure they’ll continue being the best of the best age-groupers.
Thank you for the reply to my question among the other nonsense. Oh man, slowtwitch has not changed one bit!
Have you ever raced in Europe for any period? The teams are organized like soccer leagues and super fun. It actually makes a great team sport - like cross country. I credit their strong club system for why they’re doing so well at the elite level. https://www.tricoachmartin.com/post/how-we-re-a-different-type-of-triathlon-team-and-why
