Evade helmet (2 v 3)

so looks like there is a evade 3
im gunna buy one to test against our proper TT helmets for kona
might be worth dropping few watts for being cooler

is there any differance from the evade 2 to 3 ???
thanks

The 3 has a squared off back (so longer airfoil, Kamm’d to length).

Evade 2

Evade 3

Here’s a vid of Dowsett testing a whole range of aero helmets (including the Evade 3) to give you an idea how it compares to full aero helmets:

Interesting timing. This weekend a friend is starting his process to optimize for IM Canada.

He is quite heat sensitive so we are going to measure temperature in the helmet at the same time as the aero factor to see if we can gleem something. We added a temperature sensor to the sensor we use to track head position.

The Evade3 vs his vanquish vs an aero head is in the list for today, although preliminary. A new bike is in the works, suit and some tire testing.

What helmet do you currently have ? He brought the previous version of the Rudy so I can throw that in.

She currently have the wing which she has used at kona before and the wing dream
She loves the wing dream for comfort but I reckon it’s is a. Bit hotter than the wing

Just watched the vid and the evade tested fir him much worse than I thought it may

Put 12 people through the tunnel, with different positions and those numbers will be quite different.
Convert the to watts at your speed and compute how many seconds lost

My buddy is willing to give up 4-5 watts for temperature. On the other hand he will not wear a non vented helmet even for 20 watts. We will see.

Consider testing the AH w/o the visor (if you aren’t already). From my understanding the watts lost is minimal (and then only at yaw), and most of the cooling comes from exposing the slots behind the visor that let air flow over the forehead and out the back (vs. those two small vents in the top shell). If allowed, could you share the aero and temp results? Lots of folks seem to ponder an aero road lid for hot races.

FYI, quick test on the weekend : 5watts at 36km/h Evade 3 vs Previous Rudy and a subjective “way cooler”.

New suits on the way, maybe new bike, tire pressure testing queued up…this is going to be fun

It would take much longer testing, but I wonder what the impact on CBT is of wearing the cooler helmet vs. the full aero helmet but riding at 5W less (given the speed of the test, guessing something around 195W vs. 200W for the “average” rider)?

CBT ?

Core Body Temp.

Using a CORE sensor, pill, or similar and getting to steady state; thus the long test probably required.

We could use a CORE
We have ambient temp
We have temperature in the helmet

I am not sure if we would see anything but could try

Yeah, I’m not sure it’s testable to any level of precision :(.

It does get to the heart of what people are really looking at when thinking of using a slower/cooler helmet for hot races like Kona, since they could be cooler in their aero helmet by just riding at a lower wattage.
