eTap bullhorn bar tape - suggestions

Building up a new bike with eTap and wanted some recommendations on the best bar tape to use for the blips on the bullhorns. I plan to wrap the tape over the blips to help hold them in place. wasn’t sure whether cork tape would be too thick or if someone has good experience with a certain type. Any suggestions?

When you get finished please post pics. I am interested in the same thing

I don’t know your individual set ups but I have just switched from pool / spa non slip grip tape to adhesive backed neoprene.

Both might be worth a try for you ? Both are very cheap, easy to use and non destructive in removal.

I liked the pool tape, but now I have moved onto neoprene it is so much more tactile … Jury is out on how long it will last but it’s cheap enough to replace frequently …

Pool tape would provide more support if you are needing it to add a bit of strength / structure.

nice, might consider that on the aerobars.

will update this once i get everything finished, likely 3 weeks bc I have to wait for the eTap to arrive.

I have etap on my TT/Tri bike…I used cork tape and taped over the blips on the bullhorns, no problems.

Also interested in options. Taped around button at the moment but not great and exposed edges starting to get messy. Tried taping over but felt it made pressing buttons awkward.

Considered getting some Blip grips (https://www.sram.com/...s/sram-etap-blipgrip ) and seeing if they will work with the end plug removed and starting tape after the button.

I have blip grips on the aerobars and they also work well. It did take a bit of re-wrapping on the bull horns to get the tape over those blips correctly

Right now, I just taped over them, but looking at this shrink rubber ala fishing poles… maybe work nicely!

Using the clics on aerobar.

I’mean considering the blipgrips on bullhorns behind brakes without the end cap but not sure if it’ll work (and would mean re-cabling brakes again to fit which I don’t fancy)

I hope to get my blip grips soon so I can test this out. Either that or I have a 31.8 to 22.2mm shim coming that I’m going to combine with blip clamps.

would like to see pics when you’re done

Sorry no pics but I am using blip grips on my zipp basebar. They were a little tight going on and you have to be careful with the wire, but it is a very clean solution and does not require any additional tape. Before the grips, I wrapped tape around the button, tucking in the edges, which worked fine too. Do you have a link to where one can buy such neoprene sleeves? Looks good!

It’s 1.5mm flat sheet, mine came from eBay for £2.55 (250mm x 200mm) which is about enough to do my bike about three times over. Check out item number 261355714768

This is it close up :

It cuts up real easy with a craft knife and steel rule, I used three of the four pieces that are cut in the pic - I hold around the shifters so I only needed half the origional length I cut for the aerobar grips :

Once you know your size, just line it up nice and put the joint on the underside :

I have done the bull horns too :

I stuck a small offcut on the back of my phone just to see how it lasted - surprisingly well ! I only took it off after about four weeks as it looked odd, it actually held up really well. It wouldn’t hold up well in a crash of if you frequently scuff / lean your bike on walls etc, but it’s so cheap, quick and easy to use that doesn’t really concern me much (and I don’t lean my bike on walls … lol !)

Just finished wrapping mine with Cannondale Synapse tape. I just happened to have it so figured I’d at least try. It’s very stretchable and confirms nicely if you work it some. It’s a synthetic tape but has a “suede” finish so it’s not rubbery to the touch like Lizard Skinz.

Should have said, the neoprene sheet feels very similar to the retro ‘Grab On’ sponge rubber grips that they did for both road bikes and MTB’s - if you remember those … ?

I still have them on my retromod MTB

Another option for base bar blip set up: what is that?

Silicone “rescue tape”. Thin (aero), grippy, and fuses to itself (no sticky adhesive). Doesn’t really have any cushioning, but I’m not spending a lot of time out of aero.
