Anyone have one? How well do they work… any reviews?
I had the Ergomo and it had some issues after I rode in a Florida summer downpour. I sent it back and they issues me a brand new Ergomo Pro.
I liked my old one and amsure the new one will be ever better - it has some nice functions.
Hope this helps.
Ciao,
I’m looking at a power meter for my personal use. In the research I’ve done, it seems to be the best choice for me. I also called SRM & Ergomo in Germany to get their “Spin” on their products. Ergomo seemed to have all the answers.
It seems cheaper than most, plus you can use any chainset with it. I definetly feel like going this way in the long run but all I’ve seen are CAD images of it and despite that they claim 98-98% accuracy I want to see some anecdotal use first before I’d consider it…
R&A Cycles has the pro in stock- really cool unit- I was playing with it the other day- The ONLY issue I found with it is that for NOW you can only get the pro unit with a square taper bb- ie campy or old shimano- BUT ISIS will be available in a couple of months and outboard bearing BBs by next year.
Also, Ergomo has its own square taper carbon crankset that is made in the same factory as FSA to solve the problem of BB.
I’ve had one for 3 weeks now. I also have a SRM (I wanted to try a compact crank on my road bike which is what spurred the change) and rode with both ont he bike for the first week to compare. For me the 2 were spot on, I didn’t have to adjust the calibration of the Ergomo at all.
As the Ergomo only measures left sided torque (and doubles it to get total torque, and hence power), if you have a significant l-r imbalance, the absolute numbers may be off. You’d have to have a pretty big imbalance for that to be an issue, and even in the worst case scenario, the numbers would still be usefull for your own comparison, but not for comparing to other people power numbers. If you have access to another powermeter, you can also do what I did, ride with both for a little initially, and if necessary, adjust the calibration on the Ergomo so that it matches.
The unit itself is great. The screen is by far the best out there. The functions are also tops (current and average watts during intervals is the best feature). The computer is bulky (length and width are the same as the SRM powercontrol, but the Ergomo computer is twice as tall due to it’s mounting mechanism).
US customer service is great, Randy is awesome.
I have no idea what the turn-around will be like when the BB needs servicing. That’s a potential downside, but since that only needs to be done every 12-15k miles, that’s a ways off yet.
If price were no object, I’d still go with a SRM (if the new FSA SRM cost the same as the Ergomo, I would of gone that route to get the compact set up). If cost matters, then the Ergomo really competes with the PT SL (and soon the wireless PT, which will apparently cost almost exactly the same as the Ergomo). Both are great products.
