Just ordered equinox 9 .Dealer did not know is it going to be 9 or 10 speed.Hope i made a good choice?Any comments!2 weeks wait for 54 cm size.
I have one. I raced on it for a season. I think the frame is fine. Nice geometry (flippable seat post) and decent aerodynamic features. Mine had a parts mix that was some DuraAce and some Bontrager stuff. The chainrings were awful and I replaced them (got a Shimano 54t TT chainring … it’s da bomb). The brakes are 105 and they’re fine. It’s a 9-speed drivetrain, but that was last year’s model. I can’t believe your LBS can’t get that info for you. I’m not a fan of the bars. To me, they seem about as aero as sticking a couple of baseball bats on your bike or something like that. I dumped them pretty quick and got a set of Vision base bars and some profile T2+ aero clip ons. By the time I was done, it was a pretty slick bike. But with the extra money I spent to get it into the shape I wanted it, I coulda bought something a good bit better. I was new to the TT/Tri thing and didn’t know if I’d stick with it … so I was cautious with my initial purchase.
One thing I REALLY like is the wheels. The Bontrager Aero wheels are fast and bomb-proof. They’re great training wheels and not too shabby on race day if you’re on a harsh or technical course. I really think the paired-spoke thing is a great concept that doesn’t get much dialog in this forum.
Enjoy it. Odds are it won’t hold you back if it fits you.
