Looking for some crazy, sick swim workouts people have done. Swam 8x500 on 7:30 last night…odd numbers freestyle, even numbers pull w/paddles and buoy.
I’m sure that’s amateur for many ST’ers…got any suggestions?

15x400
400 Choice
400 kick
12x400 paddles
400 relax
.
100x100 long course meters, on a 1.30 send-off, done at age 14
45x200 long course meters, on a 2.45 send-off
Both sets are, which is pretty obvious, boring as hell.
Go to the swim workout forums.
They have some 6-8K workouts in there that would leave me dizzy
12k? That’s what I’m talking about. Keep 'em coming. I’m going to be in the pool a lot recovering from my knee surgery and want to get some big workouts in.
Actually it’s just 6k, sorry to disappoint you…
10 x 100
10 x 200
10 x 300
10 x 400
10 x 500
You choose the interval. . . but if doing yards, would keep it on a 1:30 base.
Or you can do it backwards, with the 500’s first.
Enjoy!
4 x 2500 (SCY) on 30:00. Really, really boring set.
I think that takes the cake as the most boring set ever. especially since I don’t think I could make the 30:00 interval and would become a 10k straight swim.
16,000 IM (long course meters): 4000m fly, 4000m back, 4000m breast, 4000m free, no breaks. Courtesy David Wharton.
I haven’t been able to make the set in more than 20 years. I might be able to do 4 x 2000 on 30:00 now, but I don’t know why I would try.
HOLY SHIT! That is insanity. 4000 fly…no way.
Man, these are some boring ass workouts…try this:
WU 1x600 (Sw/Kick/Drill by75)
SW 8x50 count descend @:50 sec (for “count descend” add stoke count to swim time , and try to lower each 50)
K 6x100 @:15 seconds - Alternate kick on board/kick on back
SW 3x 1x550@:20 sec rest (mile tempo) followed by 4x100 IM @:15 seconds rest (or substitue 5x100 fr 10% below mile pace - these are supposed to be hard) Add up the 550s for your mile time.
Pull 6x200@:15 seconds rest - descend 1-3,4-6 (start at 75% descend to 90% on 1-3, 80%-95% 4-6)
SW 8x75 @:45 seconds rest - Odd laps easy, even laps all out
WD 200-300
Total = ~6500yds
16,000 IM (long course meters): 4000m fly, 4000m back, 4000m breast, 4000m free, no breaks. Courtesy David Wharton.
That’s awesome!!!
Didn’t Vendt or Jensen do something like 30 x 1000 yds on 10:00?
25 x 400 x 4:45 IM SCY
.

Is there someone out there doing this kind of work???
It looks like madness… why not just sell the farm:
100,000x200 @ 2:00
50x200’s Last 3 were on the 1:55.

25,50,75,100,125,150,175, 200, 225, 250, 275, 300
Both workouts sucked… a lot.
Vendt did 30X1000 on 10:30, which is a good set, but not nearly as impressive as 10:00 would have been.
Earlier this year, I did 6X700s on 7:10 holding between 6:45-6:52.
Earlier in my career…
6X100s on :59
6X1000s on 10:05
10K Fly for time
25K Free for time
Lots of other good sets with equipment… too many to remember.
The best 2 sets I have ever heard (not done) were as follows…
Dave Wharton did 12X100 IM on 1:10… not that impressive, except it was long course meters.
Also, a female athlete from Foxcatcher, I believe it was Karen LaBerg maybe… 1X100 on :59, 1X100 on 1:01, 2X100s on :59, 200 on 2:02… …7X100s on :59, 700 on 7:07.
I did a lot of hard workouts as a kid but you asked for crazy so here is the one that stands out since it was unique: A 2 hour open water workout back in college which constited of our coach, who was in a speedboat, pointing out landmarks anywhere from 200 to 2000 yds away and saying “swim there.” When we got there, he sent us somewhere else. We did not touch bottom the whole time.
After circling the lake for 2 hours, the workout then ended with the sick part. All 30 of us had to stand with our hands touching the wall of the picnic shelter which was about 50 yards of sandy beach from the water. On the whistle we had to run to the water, swim around a pole that was about 50 yards out then run up the beach back to the shelter. The winner got to sit out the rest of them but the remaining guys went again as soon as the last person finished. I finally won on about the 10th one but I also had to suffer through getting passed in the last 5 yards at least 3 times. I don’t think I could have made 30 of them since I had put all my eggs in the basket of trying to win and get out early.
