Criteria met. I was aware of Smalls’ remarkable life not long after moving to Charleston. Smalls is a big family name in the lowcounry. Epic life.

Wimsey jr’s class had a show and tell for parents on a science project thingie today.
Each kid had to design a machine to tackle a community problem of some sort.
Wimsey jr designed a machine to clean oil out of drinking water.
It was epic to watch him earnestly explain to parent after parent, and eventually the school superintendent, that the machine had a “control room”.
That is low key epic. Winning the Eddie on your paid leave, bagging the whale for the bucket list.
Hell of a tribute to Luke at the end. He could die happy now one would think.

I saw that article earlier. If ever the word “hero” applied to someone, it is him. Imagine his mom realizing that if they all are going to survive, she’s going to have to let him risk his life.
