First to clarify: I started a diet one day before Slowman (yessir ;-)) I was 165 lbs, wishes to get down to 154, and am currently 162.
Ever since i started this diet I have kept asking myself the following silly question: as I am reducing my food intake, will my body get use to it and eventually start storing fat at the same rate it used to when I used to eat more calories?
Another way to put it: once i have reached 154, can I slowly add a can of beer or a piece of cake here and then, and will my body’s reaction to these calories be worse now that it is used to my “diet intake” or will it react the same way it did before my diet?
one time i did a fitness show diet and it had me on a calories that went like this:
-4 weeks, 1500 calories
-1 week 1650 calories
-1 week 1815 calories
-1 week 1996 calories
-4 weeks 2197 calories
the idea was to get the body burning its own fuel, and by gradually increasing calories it was able to keep burning. so, by this example I would think that you would gradually need to increase your calories in order to keep loosing and to not go into starvation mode. but i’m no expert.
well, let’s just say that I never made it to the show. doing that diet was so hard–it’s a bodybuilding diet, and i was trying to get to 7-9% bodyfat, etc. i don’t know how people do it, but some can stay strict forever. i freak out after 2 weeks…lol.
You need to make sure you don’t reduce your calories too much and that you are eating every 3 hours or so to keep you body from storing fat. If you haven’t already you might wonder over to gordo’s tip site and read some of his nutrition articles. http://www.byrn.org/gtips/gtips.htm
