Ensure Powder Nutrition Meal Replacement - UK Alternative

Joe Friel recommends using Ensure cans as a meal replacement pre-workout for people on the go or as a substitute for foods that may not go settle as easily. The issue is it is particularly difficult to get hold of in the UK. The only alternative I have found is Enshake which I believe is the same company but it is extremely expensive per serving. Has anyone found an alternative in the UK for Ensure, even in the powder form?

Thanks!

Have a look at this list of ingredients:
Water, Sugar, Corn Maltodextrin, Milk Protein Concentrate, Soy Oil, Soy Protein Isolate, Cocoa Powder (Processed with Alkali), Pea Protein Concentrate, Canola Oil. Less than 0.5% of the Following: Corn Oil, Magnesium Phosphate, Cellulose Gel, Natural & Artificial Flavor, Potassium Chloride, Potassium Citrate, Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Phosphate, Sodium Citrate, Choline Chloride, Ascorbic Acid, Salt, Cellulose Gum, Monoglycerides, Soy Lecithin, Carrageenan, Potassium Hydroxide, Ferric Orthophosphate, dl-Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate, Zinc Sulfate, Niacinamide, Manganese Sulfate, Calcium Pantothenate, Cupric Sulfate, Vitamin A Palmitate, Thiamine Chloride Hydrochloride, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Folic Acid, Chromium Chloride, Biotin, Sodium Molybdate, Sodium Selenate, Potassium Iodide, Phylloquinone, Cyanocobalamin, and Vitamin D3.

Ensure is absolute garbage.

Throw a dart at just about any meal replacement powder at your local store & odds are, it will be a considerably better choice then Ensure.

Hi Brian

Thanks for your response, I checked out your site and see you are a nutrition expert. Is there anything you recommend to your athletes?

Most of these products will retail around £2.50 -£3.50 each. I think Brian will probably say to eat real food… but if you want a cheap and cheerful alternative, ask at a pharmacy about Aymes shakes. this is a powder to be made up with whole milk and is then nutritionally complete. Price probably around the £1.50-£2.00 mark.
Personally, I’d go with the real food option

How about either of these products?

I currently use MyProtein for protein powder and found their products pretty good.

Hi Shutt58,

Was just posting when I saw your response. Will definitely check out Aymes shakes. I do try to eat real foods, namely bagel with peanut butter chased by a High5 Energysource drink in the morning but sometimes find it rattles my stomach. I would eat bagel + peanut butter and oats too but have found the oats really churn my stomach, especially if I am exercising a couple of hours later on.
