We both feel like we have done our fair share of homework and now seek a mid-term.
Souza and I are off to Colorado’s Bob Cook Memorial, or as some know, Mt. Evan’s HIll Climb. We will see how the burrito diet pans out. This is the official kick off to the late 2005 season, although Kenny raced in a small duathlon 10 days ago in Oklahoma.
There is a local bookie taking bets on Kenny vs. Me. Before you make you bets, I have to disclose a few things:
Kenny asked me to bring some race wheels out for him(he is already there). In my bike box, I have packed him some Reynolds carbon wheels. I took the liberty to put a cassette and tires on the wheels for him. 25mm with thorn resistant tubes and a 11-21 cassette. He will put those baby’s on his 2002 QR tt bike-he has put regular bars on. 2. I am riding Kuota Kredo. For training, the bike weighs exactly 16.5lbs. Laguna Bch Cyclery was kind enough to give me a set of Topolino wheels (1170grams) When I put these on my hog, the weight will be reduced to 14.5lbs.
Kenny has been running 55mi/week along with his 375-450 on the hog.
I have averaged 432/week on the hog with no running miles.
I weigh 170
Kenny is down to 136lbs (from 165)
I put all of my money on Kenny!!

Anyone out there ever “raced” this thing?? If so, what cassette did you use?
No shit money on Kenney Bob. Ken weighs about much as my leg. What is the line on top 5? Top 10? Top 15? Hell is old man Nedley going to show up? Will either or both of you beat that old man?. Things that make you go hmmm?
I think that it’s outstanding gamesmanship that for a race with the term “Hill Climb” in it, you load him up with an 11-21 (although I’m sure he can “old school” it up most hills anyway).
Even with just a 53-11 fixie, my money’d still be on Kenny.
I’m sure you guys will both kick it old school and kick some ass…
Get a “heavy wheel” like the Czech guy used for the hour record, and disguise it like a Reynolds carbon. Kenny will think it’s normal for a race wheel to weigh 3000g; he’s been around since single speeds were the rage.
I forgot to mention that the 11-21 is a 7 speed. Will it work with his DA10 spd?!?!
You are one sick bastard! A 7-speed, 11x21 for Mt. Evans? And 25c, thorn resistant tires on carbon tubulars? I am sure Kenny will appreciate that up above 12,000 feet - oiy! I can only hope that it sleets/snows on the both of you as you approach the summit like it has to me several times in the past when I have done that race!
