Anyone used these? I’m of course going to try in training first before race – BUT when’s a good time to take it? Let’s say in a half- or full-Ironman?
I’m curious to hear about this, as well.
But what the hell is a cheerpack? Is that a European thing? Sounds like it should have a shot of whiskey in it.
Oh - it’s a little flask of something that supposedly “the pros” whip out to carry them through the last part of a tough race. I’m sure it’s just good clean carbs like everything else, but who knows, maybe it’s the miracle product we’ve all been waiting for :).
yeah, I know what it is, just curious about the name “cheerpack”
seriously, is this a concentrated carb drink? I’m waiting to hear someone rate this as well
Ive used the Enervitene products over the last couple of years…the gels come in smaller packs that are only about 75-80 calories …I think…the cheerpack has a screw on/off top and is like 3 or 4 gels in one…the cheerpacks are like 250-280 or something like calories…almost like a whole coke…
they are easy to get down and sort of taste like strong diluted coke…some people may not like th e taste… I like them…must remember to drink and adequate amount of water with them.
Trhe downside is they are a bit expensive complared to other gels.
I think they are good for th elonger stuff…easy way to get lots of calories quick…they have never given me an y stomach issues.
I’ve been using them for about a year now, primarily in races, a couple times towards the end of long rides to get me back home. For half ironman, I take one in T2 and carry one with me for the run and down it at the halfway point. This is a minimalist approach, where I’m not consuming gels throughout the race. It’s supposed to be two doses, but it’s easy to toss it down at once and get about 480 calories. I haven’t taken them in ironman races, just a lot of solid food (Clif/Powerbars), gels and energy drinks. I imagine you could take one halfway through the bike, one in T2, and maybe one halfway through the run, and use gels and bars as well…
It’s very sweet and sugary, but goes down very easily.
300 calories of thin, concentrated carbohydrate (be sure take with a cup or more of water) … i have used them and experienced pretty quick changes in blood sugar (up & unfortunately down). My suggestion is once you start taking them continue to do so (or make sure you are taking other readily absorbed carbs) OR wait to use it in the last 1:00-1:15 of the event.
For a half you could take one at the start of the run, then every 30-45 minutes after … that is just one idea. Try them in training and experiment how your body reacts to it.
All the best …
“strong diluted coke”
That doesn’t make any sense:)
.
I have used these as my exclusive calorie supply throughout the bike at both IM Germany and Brasil and find they are great. Just fill a 750ml water bottle with them and there is just over 3000 cals! You need very little water/liquid with it. I sip it every 10 minutes throughout to maintain levels, supplemented with whatever the race supplied hydration is fine for me.
In the words of your title, Yes, recommended.
We sell these by the box. Tons of them. The Enervitene Cheer Pack is the “Break Glass in Emergency” nutritional solution.
No science here. It is all sugar. Concentrated. Thick. Nasty. And 100% effective. There is no decoding the labelling on the package as far as calorie content. But on an anecdotal basis I can tell you it provides anti-bonk capability within 5 minutes for 40 mintues for a 160 pound athlete (me).
Drink water with it, about 1/2 a bottle. I take the whole pack at once even though the pack says 2 servings. Undo the cap, down the hold thing and tighten your grip on the bars.
2 fluid ounces per package, 120 calories, liquid, not gel, can be dilluted (but why?). This stuff makes Red Bull look like Elsey the cow.
Contents as labelled: Fructose syrup, glucose syrup, water, lemon oil.
Like said, when science fails, sugar succeeds.
Here, go to this link and slide down part of the page. I wrote this about 2 years ago.
Note that the claim of calorie content is likely NOT accurate do to some fairly cryptic labelling n the product. We called the U.S. Distributor and got no answer on the correct calorie content.
I do know it works.
Nothing really new to add, except I’ve used them on the run at HIM and IM distance. I usually down the whole 2 serving pack in one gulp, and drink a little water. I try not to use it until the last 30 minutes of the run, or I get energy spikes and dips. The energy drop usually doesn’t occur until 20-30 minutes after I take the stuff (I’m 6’4", 190 lbs, if that matters). Definitely a quick pick-me-up, though.
I made some calls to Enervitene a couple of years ago, and was finally able to find out that one cheer pack has 240 calories. Their labeling is very confusing.
I like it best mixed in with water in my aero bottle. Worked great for me in my first 1/2 IM.

thanks for your info on this, we in vancouver have been trying like hell to find out exactly what the calories of one package is… I have used this for the last 2 years and really like it, but use it to supplement my power gel intake…end of the bike I take down two and then just run on coke and gatorade with one cheer pack for emergencies…seems to work for me
I took one for the first time a couple weeks ago near the end of a ride and felt like a rock star!!!
It’s simple sugar, so watch it. What goes up, must come down. Down it at 10k to go in an IM… and your kickin to the finish.

big mistake I mailed them a few weeks ago, and they admitted to me that there is a mistake on the package.
One Cheerpack = 120 kCal !!!
This is hilarious. We’ve got people saying there are 250-280, 480, 300, 240, or 120 calories in a cheerpack.
Sorry to disappoint you guys, but Wimothy and Tom D are correct. There are only 120 cals in one cheerpack. Not really more than in your typical gel. It does get into your system faster and there is a definite “boost” you get from them, though.
At $5 bucks a pop, they aren’t cheap for only 120 cals.
I bet he meant “strong, flat coke”, because that’s my assessment.
I like them, because unlike gels that will easily make me puke, these just go in, wash down easily (even though they are pretty syruppy tasting), and are European. It reminds me of the old days when we would drink a flat Coke.
I also love the Enervitene tablets.
I use them at the beginning and end of the bike leg. They are expensive, but I get them by the box and get a considerable discount.
