Endurance Road Bike

I need (want) a new road bike. I like the geometry of endurance bikes, more specifically I like the added stack heights so I don’t need 25mm of spacers under my stem. I need something with a ~74 STA, in a 52cm.

I’m considering a 2019 Domane SL6 or a carbon 2020 Synapse. We have a lot of tar & chip roads around here, so I don’t mind the added comfort built in to the endurance bikes, but it’s not a must. I want something responsive and not wooden. I would prefer something with aero benefits, but you don’t see much in the way of aero endurance bikes. Can you help me decide?

How about the new Specialized Roubaix? More aero than their previous model, light, and some great build options.

Fair enough! To me the Future Shock is an attractive feature, but likely due to the bumpy roads (& off road) places I ride.

Check out the Cervelo C-series. I love my C5. I had rented a Roubaix prior to buying the C5, and didn’t really care for the feel of the future shock.

Cervelo uses a 73 degree STA on all of their frames sizes. That’s a deal breaker for me.

One degree of STA is a deal breaker? Why can’t you just move the saddle fore/aft to put you in your desired position regardless of STA?

Unless it’s close to 74 degrees, I end up with the saddle slammed all the way forward. My SS EVO had a 73.5 and my fitter wanted it a few mm more.

I believe Felts endurance lineup has what you’re looking for with a 74 STA.

And just to make sure, you’re already using a zero-offset seatpost?

They have the Sagan version with no future shock. I have a slightly older version but changed out the setback seatpost to my syntace p6 high flex. First gavel/mixed surface ride on 30s was pretty nice.

Hello, have you tried the Roubaix?
I have one and I love the ride, very comfortable and you don’t feel the bumps but the bike is no bobbling!

The Giant Defy in size S has exactly a 74 STA. I have a '19 Defy Advanced Pro 0, the top of the line one with Di2, and I love it. A bit more racy handling than most endurance bikes, can fit 32mm tires, practical engineering, nice carbon wheels, includes a (Giant-branded, made by Pioneer) power meter in the price… etc. Bike Radar’s Endurance Bike of the Year.

The Canyon Endurace has a 73.5deg STA and they used to do 2 variations of their VCLS 2.0 seatpost, one more forward than the other and the steeper one could be mounted to put the rail clamp either just in front or behind the seat tube. So even before the saddle rails came into play you cad good adjustability. I don’t know if the current version still uses the VCLS 2.0 or if the same options are available but if so, I expect that would accommodate youpretty well. They look like nice bikes too, essentially an Ultimate with a slightly more relaxed geometry and I really enjoy my Ultimate.
