Employer Sponsorship

I completed 5 HIMs back about 10 years ago and WTC renewed a 3 year host contract with my home city after a 10 year absence. I was amazed how quickly I went from “well that was fun, I guess I proved something to myself”. To “OMG I should do this again”. Now, in my mid-late 50s I’ll have additional training challenges after being “on the couch most of the last 10 years. So I’m probably entering the Boise 70.3 2025
I work for a medium sized company that seems to have a good local community involvement side and it occurred to me that perhaps I might be able to get my entry fee and a few reasonable related expenses covered in exchange for a custom logo tri-suit and a few company blog updates and “we’ve got skin in the game” community PR blog articles etc.
Anyone here experienced this or have suggestions etc? I’m planning to make a pitch to the VP of marketing and see how it goes. I’d love to get back into racing but 500$ entry is a lot for me.
Wish me luck. :slightly_smiling_face:

If your marketing exec is like most companies they get tired of everyone asking for a handout. From an employee…? Ugh even more cringe.

If you’re still determined, the best way to approach it is that you were planning to do some marketing and promotions for some local companies to fund your race and training (have a list of ideas ready to show) and then it “occured” to you to promote your own employer instead.

Ask if any of the ideas sound interesting and would make a good fit for their marketing strategy.

I wouldn’t come out with a direct ask on money, unless they dole out these things regularly.

Generally, I’d be worried about annoying my employer and asking essentially for more money to go do my hobby.
