Elipitical trainer Watts V Cycling Watts

I don’t have a power Tap or the like, so I have no way of measuring my cycling wattage.

I have been forced to use an elliptical trainer as PT for my pathetic ankle that will never heal in hopes of one day running again. The ellipticals I have been using show you your wattage, so I was wondering if there was any correlation between that power output and cycling wattage?

Anyone know?

Definition (care of Wikipedia):
One watt is one joule of energy per second.
1 W = 1 J/s = 1 newton meter per second = 1 kg·m2·s?3

Watts is watts, but there is no formula for correlating watts on an elliptical or watts on a bike (or a rowing erg, for that matter.) Doesn’t mean you can’t train by watts in another discipline. You can use the theory of wattage training from cycling and apply it to other machines.

Thanks for the science update- I missed that part while getting my biology degrees.
