I know that too little electrolyte replacement is a bad thing, but I’m wondering if too much would be harmful. After seeing the thread about E-gel, I’m considering trying it, but I usually carry a sports drink on the bike, partly for flavor, partly for sodium, etc. Any thoughts on this subject?
I usually drink a liter of Pedialyte on Mondays, after a race weekend or hard training weekend, to make sure I put back the electrolytes I sweat away. I’ve never had a problems with it. It works for infants, so I can’t see it doing me harm. Also if I cramp on a hard speedwork day, I’ll use it. I find it works better than Gatorade, Powerade, Accelerade or anything else I’ve tried. In Florida or similar climates you need to be drinking more than water to keep your electrolytes in balance.
