So, just sitting at my desk, and I suddenly get what feels like an electric shock starting at the base of my right ankle and traveling upwards a bit. Has happened a couple of other times, both of which I was driving and my right foot was on the gas pedal. Had my right foot and leg in a similar position here at the desk when it happened, although this time it was about 3x more severe than in the car. Anybody ever have something similar? I know…go see a doc…I already have an appointment for 8 July for a routine visit and will ask then since it doesn’t seem too major at the moment…just thougth I would see if anyone had an idea what this is.
Go to a physio a get neural tension tested…could be due to tight piriformis or gleut medius…directed or PNF stretching can fix easily…physio can teach which ones…good luck!
Have you iced your ankle/achilles/lower calf recently? If you did ice it, you may have left it on too long and done some minor damage to the nerve… If that’s the case, it should get better in a few days. I have done this before, it’s fairly a common mistake.
Where exactly do you feel this pain? I was training for IMTX and would feel something (more like a bee sting but whatever) where my shin meets the top of my foot. It wouldn’t last more than half a second so I figured it was just a pinched nerve due to the high volume. My training has been light since the race and I haven’t felt it.
Sounds similar to what I experienced. I would feel it occasionally and only during dorsiflexion, both while sitting and walking. It didn’t impact my performance at all so I didn’t get it checked out. Hopefully someone can shed some light on it, for my own curiosity.
I would get it checked quickly as spontaneous radiculopathy is never a good sign. I doubt that the problem is from a tight piriformis or gluteus medius because the pain is located distally. Usually tightness in the gluteus muscles would manifest above the knee and not below it although this could vary. Again get it checked as it could point to more serious problems. Did you notice loss of strength or pain above the knee ?
You know, I had that exact sensation about 10 years ago in my mid twenties. Started in the morning, and by noon I almost couldn’t walk. Turns out it was actually shingles! No other symptoms, but doc was quick to diagnose and 100% correct. Not saying that’s what you got, but that’s what I had, and that’s what it felt like. I thought only old people got it. No, I didn’t go to medical school, is it that obvious?
Nope, very localized…feels like it travels up a couple inches or so. Over very quickly. No loss of strength. I am going to the doc anyway in about a week, and figured I’d ask about it then, as long as it doesn’t get more severe.
I’d highly suggest seeing someone that knows what they are doing and or get an MRI of your lumbar spine. I’ve had this. I know I have issues (you may not). Every case is very different. Bottom line is I’d take is seriously until proven otherwise.
Yeah, like I said, will definitely bring it up on the 8th when I see the doc about some other stuff. Don’t have any real choice in who I see due to relying on military health care (Tricare since I’m a retiree).
**I have been searching on line to see if anyone has had the same problem ref the electric shock in the lower leg. I have had 3 back surgeries since 2008, and right now it looks like there is going to be a 4th or 5th coming up. This shock like feeling has been going on for a few month now, it occurs about every 20 or 30 seconds. No matter if IM sitting or laying down it always happens… it does not hurt at all just annoying as hell . Now I am having problems with pain going down my leg from my upper thigh. The first surgery was for that same thing a few years ago and seems like more disc has went out or the hard ware has went bad, regardless this pain is off the charts. **
** So I go back to the back doc in Jan, would go sooner but changing insurance and want to wait till the new kicks in Jan. I hope no one else is dealing with this because it sucks big time **
