Electric lawn mowers ... got a favorite?

I’ve decided to get an electric lawn mower. Normal size suburban lawn.

Any favorites?

I asked this a while back. Maybe the fall. Lots of votes for EGO

I haven’t made the switch yet but am eyeballing the EGO when I do. I am contemplating xeroscaping my front and keeping lawn in the back, so I’m holding off until I make the decision so I cna better get the right size/power EGO.

Ego here.

This will be my 3rd season with it and I haven’t charged the battery yet so I can’t tell about the life of the battery beyond 2 years. I will say that I have noticed it has a shorter life as the temperatures drop below 60 degrees. I typically need ~60-70% of a charge to mow my lawn. Last fall, I’d say it took 80-90% of my battery to mow.

The main thing I like about it is it is quieter so I can mow early mornings or evenings. Is it greener? I don’t think so, a gas mower eats so little gas and lasts 10-15 years. I’ll probably get 5-6 years out of this before I need to buy a new battery (which was half the cost of the mower).

I just got an Ego to replace a reel mower that is not worth money. I got the basic $400 one at Lowe’s (not self propelled, 21") and am impressed after one cut. Our yard space is quite small (probably <2000sf total grass between front and back) and not complicated so I barely even used any battery power. Other positives are how quiet it is (I was actually surprised by how quiet it was, seems quieter than a reel mower to be honest which has a lot of metal on metal noise) and storage is easy as it stands upright (don’t know if gas mowers do that). Plan to get the string trimmer and blower in the future as well. About to move to a new house that has a slightly bigger yard.

After a week of deep dive reviews I purchased a Greenworks Pro 60v 25" which arrives tomorrow. I’ll report back after a few cuts. I’m replacing a gas powered Toro 22 Recycler.

As others have and will post it seems you can not go wrong with a new Ego.

My top 3 were one of the Lowes’ 21 inch Ego Selects, Costco’s 80v 21" Greenworks or an online purchased 60v 25" Greenworks. I got the dual blade 25" Greenworks because it has been reviewed as the most maneuverable due its shorter wheelbase and I’m interested in the wider cutting area.

If you are a Costco member you should take a look at the Costco Greenworks based on the offered 4 plus year battery warranty.

Good luck

Nothing with a cable. Full stop.

I bought EGO mower/blower/weedeater.

Never looking back at gas versions.

I must not be understanding what you typed. This makes no sense.

As soon as my 25 year old gas mower (Briggs & Stratton engine) dies, I’m getting an EGO (or whatever is better than that in a decade).

But that thing just won’t die. It still starts every spring on the first or second pull.

It has nothing to do with my old gas equipment didn’t work, its just that the using experience is an order of magnitude better…less noise, no exhaust, no need to get gas and mix oil, no need to tune engines, no leaky gas, etc…

Mainly just the ease of use in the very low noise and sniffing exhaust.

i have had the EGO for a few years (this is my fourth i think). Had another brand of battery mower before this and the EGO is way better.

I also have the EGO snow blower so have 3 batteries - but the mower always does my whole yard (i think it is about 10000 sq ft.) on one charge. i like that there is a universe of effective products with EGO which all use the same battery(s) and charger.

I get it. I was speaking for myself only. I want an EGO too. I am impressed by them and acknowledge the shortcomings of the gas mower for many of the reasons you list.

But lately, I have formed an appreciation for low tech old things that just work. And it has become a sort of game to see how much longer this quarter century mower will last. It just might be more stubborn than I am.

I thought it might have been done in last year with a gas leak, but a $17 replacement tank solved that. That is the first non-consumable part I’ve replaced on it.

Just to go against the grain here, I went with a Ryobi. Consumer reports said they were just as happy with the Ryobi and the demand for EGOs has moved them to a higher price point.

I also have a Ryobi. Used for half a season. I am really happy with it, the weed wacker, and blower so far. One half charge is enough to cut, trim, and blow the property. Might take the full charge if I was still in FL, especially during the summer.

I got an EGO last year along with the string trimmer.

String Trimmer - Never going back to gas, this thing is amazing.

Push Mower - Mower operates awesome. Most of my yard is done with a riding mower, so I can’t comment on battery life, but since all my yard tools use the same battery now, I don’t really worry. My only gripe with it is that the handle is longer than I would like. If it was about 2" shorter, it would be perfect.

Riding Mower - I currently have a Ryobi riding mower. EGO didn’t have one at the time. If EGO did, I would have picked up an EGO one to get a consistent battery platform. When the time comes to replace this one, it’s going to be another battery zero-turn. I know longer have gas cans around the house and couldn’t be happier with it.

I bought the next step up EGO mower and have done one mow. Will do the second today or tomorrow.

It’s great for all the reasons you listed. The self propelled version can go fairly quickly as well. I like that it has an extendable handle bc I’m tall, previous gas mowers always felt too short.

My only complaint is the driven wheels are in the back, which makes the tilt-and-turn slightly annoying. The self propel handle is also slightly awkward to use. Other than those minor things, it’s pretty perfect.

This is what happens when I multitask early in the morning. I’ve had mine for 2 years, I assume the battery will slowly die over the next few years. I’ll let you know how well the battery works after my first cut this year (3rd season).

Sure. I got this one. I think it was on sale at the time. I have around 5,000 sq ft of lawn and switch the two batteries about half way through. They charge about as fast as they burn, so I could go indefinitely.
