Been looking to find any details on the helmet Lange worn in Kona. It’s Ekoi Koina, but their site doesn’t show it. Their site shows a bobbed-tail helmet, and not anything similar to what Lange wore.
Anyone have any info?
Thanks,

Thanks,
I’ve been looking for a while now since I first saw him wear one but apart from a few pics of pros wearing them I haven’t been able to find anything.
Late reply but…
It’s already available on their website.
It goes for about $300 and it’s fully customizable in terms of colors, name, country flag, etc.
I tried to buy mine but was sold out. Not sure if available anymore
Thank you for the follow-up reply. Yes, I did see that their website does now show it available. Looks pretty cool, but kinda pricey.
Awesome thanks
.
They’ve got a good deal on the Perfect which is their latest snub aero helmet: https://www.ekoi.es/en/configurateur/perfect-2.html
However with Ekoi helmets you must remember that they’re certified to EU standards:
The EU standard CE 1078 complies with current EU legislation
This standard is not recognised in the USA, nor in AUSTRALIA.
Should you live outside the EU we advise you to check the standards that apply in your country or to contact our Product Information Service for further information.
.
Just saw a post on Instagram offering 35% on the Ekoi Koina.
Just bought mine at €195 from €300. Great deal.
Coupon code is Trimax35
Hope it helps. Can be used until end of month I think
Cheers
Thanks for the coupon code. Temptations, temptations…
really interested in both helmets from ekoi, searching google yielded nothing. Anyone have any info on both helmets, particularly comparing to say the gold standard aerohead.
Since Lange was able to use it at Kona a US event, which under Ironman regs would require the helmet to pass US regulations. Its safe to say the koina meets us standards?

No, they have special rules for the pros at Kona, I cannot remember the correct wording. Hence why you see a few euro pros wearing Ekoi helmets, but also why they have never been part of an aero-helmet wind tunnel shootout.
I don’t think it is just pros at Kona. The rest of the world especially the Europeans would have EU regulation helmets such as the Ekoi. They have never checked what sticker was in mine each time I race and none are US regulation helmets.
I wonder are the helmet companies sitting back counting their profits and laughing at us
Overheard in helmet company board room
Well guys it’s been x years since we switched from long tails to short. That’s enough time for the triathletes to switch so let’s being the long tails back
Well they have been laughing at me and my helmet collection over the years. In Australia racing triathlon it just has to have a recognised authentication EU, AUS/NZ, US etc so you can buy what you want at the best prices to race in. You have to have a AUS/NZ for cycling races or just riding on the road.
The eyeball windtunnel says pass. The visor looks too flat and poorly integrated to avoid flow separation problems

I see why they have this rule, since technically, if there are helmet laws where a race is hosted, you would need a helmet that meets those laws to be in compliance. But I much prefer the ITU rule, that states that a helmet must be approved by an recognized authority in some member nation, so euro approved helmets are legal for ITU events outside of europe… I know this rule differs from the USAT rule, which I know was problematic at the chicago grand final when many athletes were turned away for illegal helmets that weren’t actually illegal by ITU rules, just USAT, and had to rush to the expo/LBS to buy new helmets in order to be able to race…
