I know I’ve heard about this wheel on ST forum before, does anyone have any additional info on this seemingly extra deep h3?

Is this a 650 mold with “extra” material at the edge to make up the size to 700c? I’m curious as to why Eki seems to be the only one with this wheel. Is it an old Novell item, he’s been around for a long time and it may be his own, no?

I wouldn’t think it’s a 650 with “extra” material. It looks build “down” Interesting.
Too bad you can’t read the blur down the side of this wheel.

I wonder if you used the UltraCote method and increased the depth of a H3 if you would see an increase in aerodynamics or if there would be an increase in turbulance created by the spokes meeting a thin edge.
Right after Steve Hed took over the Specialized Trispoke he began experimenting with a “deep” version. This was around '98 I believe. That year at the A&M wind tunnel he tested the Trispoke with a Hed Jet Deep fairing (from the now discontinued product line) over the regular rim. I’m sure this is what is shown in the photo. The transition from the deep rim to the trispoke blades is not smooth enough for it to be from a new mold and if Steve had shelled out for a new mold you can bet he’d be cranking out the wheels!
