i.e., bone bruise.
Result of ramping up running mileage too soon after arthroscopy for meniscus tear and OA flap trim.
Anyone have experience with this?
I think ST needs an injury forum.

Edema and bone bruises are the same thing? I thought edema was swelling/fluid retention in an area. “Bone bruise” is what you get before it cracks into a s-t-r-e-s-s-f-r-a-c-t-u-r-e.
Regardless of which it is, I’m sorry you’re injured. ((((hugs))))

Nah, you can have a bone bruise without fear of getting a stress fx. But you are right, the edema is the swelling. It may be that he has edema as a RESULT of whatever impact caused the bone bruise.
Come to think of it, there isn’t really a place for there to be edema (at least palpable edema) near the condyle. Maybe a burst bursa sac, or hip bursitis?
John
how could it be hip bursitis? the femoral condyles are distal end - knee not hip
p.s. LOL about the need for an injury forum, I think not, I would be a permanent inhabitant… healthy and I can’t seem to get along
No, its edema of the bone. Its in the bone, clearly visible on the MRI.
Google searches of edema and bone bruise are instructive.
Cant believe no on on ST has this and can tell me how long it takes to heal.
Bone Bruise
A bone bruise is an area of bone that has been injured and has swelling, or edema, within the bone. This is a sign that the bone has been injured sufficiently to have inflammation within the bone itself. Specific bone bruises may not require any treatment themselves, but may be a sign of other injuries such as an ACL tear.
found that from googling. OK. What’d your doctor say about healing time?
