has anyone tried these - any thoughts or feedback?
cheers
I have no experience of them and doubt there are many on here that have. I would suggest you PM Torbjorn (Thunderbear) since he uses them and should be able to recount his experiences for you.
Thanks! Aside some feedback here that was my next step!!
As a long time natural runner, I’m intrigued. I’ve been running in nothing more than a thin slice of rubber on the bottom of my feet for years and I’m a larger runner.
There look to be a few small design flaws from my experience. I am going to get a pair to try though.
I’l tell you one thing. It’s a HUGE step forward in running shoe thinking. I’ve been waiting for someone to come out and just say it; Todays running shoes are shit. All of them. They’re not even shaped like a human foot for gods sake.
I am very curious as well. They look like a great idea, but, damn are they expensive!
I am curious about them too - am going to try a pair…if they are not great then they can be my pimp clubbing shoes!!!
As for price - all running shoes seem expensive these days!
They may be pricy, but when I was in the shoe world, i used to jump up and down and wave my arms to get people to build shoes out of polyurethane again.
Haven’t seen it yet, but I’d be willing to bet you could get 3-4 times the milage out of that shoe than you could and regular trainer.
Price per mile would be very low in that shoe… but again, i haven’t seen it in person yet.
Our shop just got them in. I took my first test run in a pair last night. They do feel different as they have you running closer to the ground and the footfall does feel more natural, “barefoot” if you will. Minute changes will stress muscles differently, which can lead to better balanced training. I am not unduly sore this morning, and my feeling is that the shoes will be a useful addition as a training tool. I’ll likely not be racing in them, nor running in them every day, but I will run in them up to 3 days a week and see hot it goes.
Ever since Phil Knight pulled that rubber out of the waffle mold shoe makers have been trying to win the rubber, foam and plastic wars by adding too much crap to shoes.
I prefer a shoe that “isn’t there”. If these shoes get close to that, then I’d consider them.
I find it despairing, though, that removing material overdesign elements results in these excessive shoe prices. ~$200 is a bit much for a shoe that isn’t going to last more than a few months for a serious runner.
Frankly shoemakers could judiciously add a bit more carbon rubber to their existing racing flat designs and they’d have the shoes I’m looking for. And they wouldn’t cost a gazillion $ to make.
BF, give credit where credit is due. It was Bill Bowerman with the waffle iron. I’m heading out for a 2nd run in them is a while. We’ll see how it goes.
Hi Toby (we met in HI07),
I have them in my shop since March.
I am very impressed with them. Very new and interesting idea.
So far the people who have bought them say they are happy with them. The non-cushioning design seems to do what it is intended to do: make you adapt a more “soft” stride rather then relying on the cushioning of a shoe.
Very low, very flexible, fairly hard.
The midsole is a PU-mix not an EVA… therefore it should last way longer then a now common shoe design.

Are the really 200 bucks a pair. I was trying to find some pricing and that is the only figure I saw.
Agreed 100%…bring back the Nike Sock Racer and Nike Air Mariah…I wore these for all my training and racing in the late 80’s and was never injured…like you, I want a shoe that is not there…just some padding under my forefoot and no big heel to toe drop and we are good to go
.
and Nike Air Mariah…

I know, I know, too soft blabla. Just saying…
Why is the Mariah on the lunaracer sole too soft? I have not tried the Luna’s but I am interested in the Mariah edition for sure!
If you’re hardcore about cushioning, than the Racer might be too soft.
Personally, I think it is the greatest shoe ever but I might be slightly biased because I am Nike sponsored. I did buy the Luna Racers before that though!
Did you run NYC marathon last year in the Lunaracer? Personally I prefer more forefoot cushioning even at the expense of speed. After 25 years of running, I will take less cushioning and slower times than slightly faster times and blown body parts!
Yes, I did. Ran the previous marathons in Asics Hyperspeed (I and II) but prefer the Nikes any day.
Are the really 200 bucks a pair. I was trying to find some pricing and that is the only figure I saw.
Yes, more or less depending if you want Yak leather or mesh.
I would buy them even at $200 if they worked.
At $200 I don’t want them to work.
Loving my Lunar Trainers, even as a big guy. I had to argue with shops even to let me try them on… and finally tried them at Foot Locker, where the obviously well-trained and qualified sales girl offered me cushioned insoles for them. Ouch.
Interested in hearing the first reviews coming in, tetsuoni. Keep us posted. I noticed their website now is pitching a very slow and gradual buildup into them like Newton recommends. I can foresee Newton-esque calf and achilles problem posts any day now
DPM, any relation to DPM Sports in NJ?
I’ll do my best to not be the one posting injury updates, thank you.
I read their slow roll in protocol and will use them for walking around quite a bit over the next few weeks. I’ll take them to Sweden and use them as my primary walking, secondary running shoes. Skol.
