oh duh…just realized why. SCAM. A lot of previous auctions listed in his other items for sale list. Dead giveaway. damn…good thing I kept telling myself …you don’t need another bike
I don’t understand why you are certain it is a scam. I know of sellers who start every auction at $0.01, with no reserve, even for auctions of items worth $1,000+. They just have faith at least two people will bid what its worth.
As for his “other auctions”, they all end in 7 days as well (not “previous auctions”.
All that said, it is an amazing amount of bikes. And from someone who seems to mostly have just been a buyer before. And you can’t pay by PayPal (less buyer protection). I’d certainly be careful, but it seems odd that someone would spend 7 years on eBay and they run such a scam. Oh, who knows…but I don’t see a “dead giveaway” of a scam.
I completely agree that there are honest sellers who start auctions for big ticket items at ridiculously low starting bids…I am certain this is not one of those sellers. I have seen at least three of his auction items being sold (almost exactly) by other sellers in recent weeks. Even the pictures are identical. Yes I could be way off base here…but I’m not betting any money that I am.
Also of interest…not one of the backdrops in any of his pictures is ever alike. Wouldn’t it make sense if you were selling so many bikes (interestingly with so many sizes) to take pictures in the same room in your house? At least once or twice when you have 30!!! to sell. Either the person has an enormous house and way too many bikes…or this is a scam. Again…I could be wrong…you planning on making any bids?
Yeah, I was wondering if he could just be stealing other peoples pics/write-ups. Perhaps the person who is doing the selling is not the person registered for that account. I’m with you that it could be shady…I would avoid it myself. The bidders identies are hidden as well.
Hmmm…you’re probably right.
Honestly, I think this bike is bullshit. Look at how they spelled ‘check’ and Australia. Looks like someone hacked in under some elses name. How does one come to own such huge inventory of ‘high end bikes’ and then sell them on ebay of all places?
Actually, “cheque” is spelled correctly. Just depends on where you live (ie. not in the USA) where words like colour and honour seemed to be mispelled consistently … you folks south of the border forget to put the “u” in which drives me nuts when MS Word tries to change it for me ![]()
Yeah…his item #3672581733 (Cannondale R4000) was previously listed by another seller as item #3670607268. Hmmm…I might write the first lister, see if he knows anything about it…
just wrote the gang at ebay…there are at least two auctions in excess of $8000 and that might concern the buyers
.
why is it that in the seller’s history, that he has been the buyer for half of the transactions in the history and only has like 6 in the past 3 months. Now the seller has like 30 top end bikes and ending on the same day, give me a break. Sorry about the check deal, but Australia, seems funny.
OK…I’m onboard with you all…scam. Found another exact listing…his #3672582498 is identical to #3669183781, sold earlier this month by another screen name.
See…I’m not insane (well at least not as far as buying on ebay is concerned)
.
There are always great deals on eBay. Some even legitimate.
Every auction I have starts at $0.63.
