Ebay bike opinion

what do you guys and girls think?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7136399247&fromMakeTrack=true

two questions:

  1. does it look legit?
  2. for someone looking for an affordable, middle-of-the-road road bike. currently riding a trek 1000 with clip-ons.

I’d switch the pedals and maybe change the crank for a compact.

I’m seriously considering this bike. would really appreciate some feedback. what do you think?

fuzzy

  1. Looks legit, I like to test them with some questions to be sure though.

  2. I have never heard of the brand so I could not comment on that.

Rather than speaking to legit-ness (although the fact hat he offers the same bike in several sizes is a little sketch) I’d like to suggest that you sit this auction out. That guy’s asking for a whopping starting bid on a pretty average bike. For that much money you should be hitting the Dura-Ace rear derailluer level on eBay.

Also, go see if you can find a Jamis at a bike shop and check the size - I’ve seen them before and they always seemed a little unique on their sizing. Then again, so has Trek.

I’d only make the plunge if you really dig those wheels. Which although not expensive are pretty sturdy. Only problem is the there are a lot of complaints about the rear hub on Xaero’s (and Spynergy’s in general) and there customer service is famously slow.

Do a search for “NEW! '04 Felt S25 tri bike/ Shimano Ultegra/ 50cm.”

The current bidding is at $750.00 with 13 hours left. The bike retails for $1800.00

That sounds like alot of money for that bike, although it is new. I got a used Trek 5500 with full ultegra and great Bontrager Race Lite wheels for $1300, off eBay. I thought this was a good deal. I think I would look further…but thats just my opinion.

Overpriced. If you’re going to ditch the triple chainring, you’re also going to have to replace the bottom bracket and left shifter (I believe) and possibly the front derailleur. You can do better than this bike for the money.

Just make sure you know what you are doing with the bidding. I suspect that there are those here who know much more than I do.

My only experience with ebay was when I lost out on a great deal in the last 10 seconds or so. I could not click my mouse fast-enough to beat out these guys and in the end I got hammered! There had been no bidding for 6 days and then all hell broke loose in the last few seconds with 7 or 8 bids! Crazy!

I learned after the fact two things:

  1. That there are people who live full time on eBay. Some even make a living buying/selling/flipping stuff

  2. That there is actually software that will bid for you that will work faster than you can ever click a mouse.

Who knew!!

I ride the exact same bike in a 57 and love it. However, as others hae said, this is overpriced for ebay, especially if it wasnt exactly what you wanted. I can’t comment anything on the seller, but you will love the bike if it fits you.

I agree with an above poster that it seems a bit high for that bike. Especially when you can get a BRand New Felt F65 (Double version) with new Ultegra 10 Speed for under $1300. and a DurAce Mixed Felt (F55) for under $1800. Both have carbon seatstay, forks, and seat post…and the 55 has Carbon cranks too.

Just my opinion…but it seems a bit steep for the starting bid! I like the 853 steel and carbon combo of the frame, but not at that price.

Mike

thanks for the feedback.

true, it does come close to the felt 55 and 65, which are the other bikes I’m looking seriously at. the big difference I see is the Jamis has a steel frame. Reynolds 853 steel, for that matter. better ride, longer-term investment? still thinking about it. down to about 24 hrs now…

That looks fully legit and a reasonable deal to me. Jamis is actually ridden by a good national level pro team including Dave McCook.

Enjoy that bike if you get it! Be sure you wear your helmet…

way overpriced. especially with a cosmetic defect. you can get so much more bike for the money. and I guarantee you that though steel is a great long term investment, you will be wishing you had an excuse to get a new bike 5 years from now. maybe less
