I pieced together a road bike a few months back with everything purchased from Ebay, except for my zips. I love the bike and am thinking about using it at Ralph’s due to its weight and the hills on the bike course. Only issue I have is I am looking for a set of clip on bars that will fit with Easton EC70 Carbon bars. Top section of bars are flattened style. Anyone know of a set of bars that may work.
NONE! Don’t use clip on aerobars on any carbon base bars (well, there are a couple of Kevlar reinforced Kestrel ones that specifically say you can, but I still wouldn’t). In fact, if you check with Easton they will tell you exactly the same thing. Just get a Ritchey WCS or FSA OS 215 aluminum base bar - they weigh the same (if not slightly even lighter) anyway and you can use some clip-ons then.
You can run aerobars only on the EC90 Equipes. I email Easton about this some time ago. Now they say that you can only use their aerobars on their drop bars so you can pick up a set of Easton aerobars and feel safe.
I am running Oval A910’s on my Eaton EC90 Equipe’s. Lets just say that I have been told that it is alright but there will be no warranty on the bars. I am alright with this.
So back to your original question. No you can not use aerobars on these bars. I would however, go pick up either a set of Easton EC90 Equipe’s and run the Aeroforce-C in a small or one size smaller that you use now. If you really want carbon bars, the other option is the Kestrel EMS pro’s and pick what ever clip on you want. I would personally go for the Hed Clip-lites in carbon as they are very light and the pads flip up out of the way when climbing. You can also pick up a set of the OVal A910 with carbon single bends. Again this is what I am running and they work great on drop bars. Very light as well.
Your bike is very nice and I would not downgrade to something like the Profile T2’s or Cobra’s. Good bars but heavy. Now I know Profile is coming out with a new bar that mounts in the center of the bar instead of above the bar or below like all of their aerobars do now. I think the new aerobars will be a lot better than their current line up. Maybe not lighter but just better. If you are using drops you have to have the armrests right on top of the drop bar. Above and it is too high in my opinion and below just makes your have your hands in an unnatural position.
“Kestrel ones that specifically say you can, but I still wouldn’t”
No problems at all with the Kestrel EMS pro bars. A few other carbon bars are re-inforced in the area where the clips attach and OK’d by the manufacturer, but I’d read the manufacturers specs first. Ultra lite aluminium bars can have similiar problems as the carbons when attaching clip ons.
I’ve cut and pasted for you from the website. As with installing anything on a bike, you should use the proper sized hardware with appropriate torque settings.
EC70 Wing road bar
Every curve of the new EC70 carbon road bar is shaped to enhance rider comfort and performance. The wing-shaped top provides comfort and stability for your hands. The unique flat front allows for integrated cable routing without grooves or holes that weaken the carbon structure. At a mere 230 grams, the EC70 offers all the strength and reliability that Easton is famous for.

I was told by Easton that I could not use an aerobar on this handlebar. I was going to get one and emailed the distributor and they told me that they could not be used with aerobars.
When I orginally looked these up on the website, it did not say that you could use them with aerobars. The best thing is that it does not say just Easton so I stand corrected.
I would used the HED clip-lites on this bar in 31.8. The carbon ones are very light and the armrest is very close to the top of the drop bars. The armrest flip up when you are climbing.
