Easily convert .FIT files to .MRC for use on Computrainer?

Can anyone point me to a currently available tool (aside from WKO+) or website that will allow me to easily convert a Garmin .fit file to a Computrainer .erg or .mrc file? I thought I could do it with PerfPro Studio but that doesn’t seem to be the case. It will let me play around with the values in a performance file but it won’t let me save it or export it to an .erg or .mrc file.

You can convert the FIT file w/ wattage info to a special PMR file format used within PerfPRO Studio. This will convert the wattage info to FTP percentage values.

  • Load the FIT into Analyzer so a new window is open via the Load File button from the Race Log.

  • Now go into the Save As button and select the last option to “Save as Workout”. Pick your location and save the file.

  • That’ll convert and save the wattage information within that file to percentages based on your FTP (make sure it’s accurate for the workout file).

  • You can then go into Studio’s workout library and import the PMR file. That’ll add it to the Past Perfs tab since this is considered a past performance workout.

As I mentioned, the file format is a special PerfPRO Studio internal PMR file type you can run from PerfPRO Studio. It won’t save it to an MRC/ERG since there’s normally too many steps/intervals/legs in the file so it uses this special type. That should give you what you want providing you’re using Studio to train.

Hope that helps,
Drew.

That is very helpful, Drew. Thank you for the response.

Once I’ve created this PMR file, I assume that I can use the “Update Stats” function to smooth out the power percentages? Or do I need to do this to the original .fit file before I do the “Save As”?

Yeah, update the FIT file first then save it off. You’ll then need to re-import each time into Studio.

You can also use the graphing after updating the stats to see if it’s where you want it. That might help speed up the process.
