Eagleman Roll Call

Who will be at the event racing or watching?

I’ll be there racing. Have heard that the swim is sometimes rough. Have you done the event before?

I’ll be there…

The swim is not that bad, though they sometimes misjudge the distance based on the current. So the top swims can vary between 23, and 27 minutes.

I’ll be there racing. Also did it last year.

I’ll be racing there too (35-39 AG). Never raced there before. I hope it isn’t as humid next weekend as it was this weekend. What’s worse-- (1) no headwinds, hot and humid, or (2) windy, cooler and low humidity? Maybe we’ll get lucky on race day.

I’ll be racing 25-29 AG. My first time racing the course and my first HIM. Rode/ran the course a couple weekends ago. Nice and flat, but the wind and lack of shade makes it interesting…

Racing 45-49 male.

Yes, I’ll be doing it again (8th year). I’ve won some AG awards there in the past. The awards are quite nice. This year the wave starts have ample time between them and the waves are organized to pretty much eliminate the wide spread drafting that has occurred in past years.

I’ll probably be there cheering. That race is my nemesis, I never fail to have something bad happen there. Hope you fare better.

Look for the spectator riding a unicycle. That’ll be me

Did you do 27:37 last year? Can you do some kind of comparison between your pool swim times and your time at Eagleman? I did a 2000SCY this weekend in 25:50; can you give an estimate for what that might have equated to last year? I’m trying to figure out how fast to bike and run to beat the guy(s) I need to, and knowing how much better my swim is will really help. Thanks!

The swim is extremely variable depending on the current, tide, wind, etc. etc. You can’t make a prediction based on a pool swim time.

Except that I asked about comparing Mr. Egan’s typical pool times and his particular race last year, to give me an idea about how it compared **last year. **I didn’t ask about this year. If I have a data point comparing one very good swimmer’s pool and race times last year, it will give me a rough idea of where I would have stood compared to my competitors last year. That knowledge will give me some idea of where I’ll be this year.

If I race very well (at this distance unknown for me), I may be within a couple minutes either way of a Kona slot. Being that my competitors are all much better runners than am I, I want to have some idea of what it’ll take to hold them off, and I don’t want to wait until the run turnaround to find out how wrong I was…

I’ll be at the Polar Tent/Gear For Multisport booth. If anyone needs helps with their Polar or is trying to figure which one might be suitable for their needs stop in and identify yourself as a Slowtwitcher

Ken,

Lots of people look at times and think they are close to a kona slot but unless its just a matter of showing up and getting your ticket punched forget it. Good Luck.

What kind Polar help are you offering? Repairs? The Altimeter on my 720i still isnt working, even after sending it in repairs.

no repairs, sorry, that is only at the NYC and Boston Marathon where repairs are done on site. Many S series owners seem to need some hands on button pushing clinic. Setting exercise sets an some tricks with swopping limits that are cool for a triathlete/duathlete.

I’ll be there. Though I grew up in Cambridge, this will only be my second time doing the race, and second season of multi-sport. I’m really hyped, especially since I’m in much better shape than last year, and feeling healthier.

Sounds good anyway. I could use a tutorial like this. See you there!

Ken

No way to tell with the swim this year. Currents are going to be really variable. Check out my previous post on tidal current speeds in the choptank race morning.

Good luck on the slot!

I’ll be there. 35yo (also a clydes). Currently living in Cambridge, so wouldn’t miss it.

BTW Look for the EM afterparty that our club (www.cambridgemultisport.com) hosts. It is at ~mile 3 on the run on Glasgow ave, about 3 blocks from transition. Please drop by after the race for some beer, food, and meet fellow twitchers. PM if you need more details.

Oh yeah - yesterday was 86 and humid. Weather next sunday is a crap shoot, but plan for stinkin’ hot…
