Dura ace c50 clincher wheel set - comments & reviews sought

I weigh 195 lbs, and have found a good deal on a set of these.

I’d be interested in hearing input from those who have ridden them.

Price is 1500 cdn.

Thanks.

I have a set and like them so much that I sold my zipp 404’s. They are stiff and the hubs are great.

I don’t have those exact wheels, but I have a set of wheels with the same hubs. I’ve had many sets of nice wheels but I don’t believe any have better hubs. Buttery smooth, have remained so over many thousands of miles, etc.

If you like those wheels you might also give some consideration to the RS80-C50. Same rim but with Ultegra hubs.

Great wheels, but I wouldn’t consider 1500 to be a ‘deal’.

i looked into these, but was ‘told’ toroidal (eg hed and zipp etc) are better. Dont know how true it is. I know the c24 is a great wheel although not aero.

Got em, Love em. BTW - I am 190lbs if that helps.

Just to put some numbers to this. Tour tested the RS80-C50(same rim and spokes, different hub, so presumably identical aerodynamics)

Wheel watts at 20/25/30mph
Rs-80 C50 5/12.9/27
404 FC Clincher 4.5/11/23.3

The exact specifics can be found online. Zipp has said the data looks suspect potentially due to a worn tire.

i have seen this, and it always threw a spanner in the works for me. What I was most suprised at was how well the c24 tested and it isnt exactly aero. It trumped a lot of higher end aero rims. Curious as to know why/how?

That wheel is the tubular version which is very different to the c24 clincher. For starters I think it is actually 28mm and not 24. It also doesn’t have the built up reinforcement around the spoke nipples like the clincher does. It is a very smooth, aero shaped rim with only 16 bladed spokes and seems to have a smooth transition from rim to tyre. I am not surprised by the result and none of the wheels it beat are especially fast AFAIK.

Got them earlier this year and love them.
