Dry Needling and Asystem PT Therapy

I have always had shin pain off/on for past 3 years. Recently I’ve been having shin pain on inside. Went to Doc and have Posterior Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (shin splints). But instead of giving same ole " cut back mileage and take some time off", he looked at it from mechanic/systematic approach. Since I have couple trigger points along my shin of muscles as well as taking into consideration of weak core, he is putting me through Dry Needling Therapy. Just had my 1st session and my calves and glutes felt like they do at mile 22 of IM run when they begin to cramp and don’t let go. That was only after of needling each area for maybe 30-40 seconds. Im excited to see the results.

anyone else had this form of therapy?

Already had this debate here. You’re much better off getting a massage than dry needling.

I am trained in both Dry Needling and ASTYM. I have found them both to be very effective treatments, although I have never used them for shin splints. I always tell people that after the needling session you are going to feel liked I just kicked you in that muscle for a few hours. Not the most pleasant feeling during, but I have found it very useful.

Get a new doc.
They should know better than to sell unproven, re-branded pseudoscience.

I like dry needling, it’s not a cure but it does release the knots and lets you function again . S I said not a cure but a release in which you have to follow through and stretch, roll and work on better mechanics to prevent the problem.

Next time, save your cash and just stretch, roll and develop mechanics. You are doing 4 things, only 3 of which are doing anything for you.
