Anyone know of a dry lube for chains, like the sorta texture you get when you first get a new oneNot sure what kind of chains you’ve been buying but campy chains are covered in a fairly thick long lasting wet lube.
Try something like Rock “n” Roll Gold. It’s a thin lube that you end up wiping off so the outside of the chain ends up being dry. Doesn’t last as long as a thicker lube but your chain will stay cleaner.

Its that slimy texture that you feel when you get a new shimano chain
im not sure what factory lube is made out of you might be able to find out. but that is what is put on when you buy a new chain.

Don’t know a source for those particular chains, but if you buy a chain at your LBS you can usually get them to degrease it in their tank for $5 and sell it to you “dry” (no lube). You can them coat it with Squirt yourself pretty easily. Just make sure to coat the chain fairly soon after it’s degreased so it doesn’t rust.
This is exactly what I’m going to do. My shop does ultrasonic cleaning so I’ll get a new Dura Ace chain, install a master link, degrease it, and coat it in Squirt.
I contacted Squirt and bought three directly from them. The heavily pretreat them; much better than me or the shop could have done.
Best and longest lasting “lube” for me has been to melt parafin wax in a pot on the stove. Drop the chain in the wax, let sit for a minute, pull the chain out and let cool. Break off the dried wax off the chain, you now have a perfectly coated dry lubed chain that lasts for a season.
Tried that years ago. Like Squirt much better.
