Other than being aware that you won’t get the bulk and tend to eat more then you would of a regular piece of fruit, any disadvantages to eating dried fruit, as long as you stay away from brands with added sugar?

dried apricots give me horrible gas…and horrible in every sense of the word.
It’s just nasty…I could clear out a tennis court!!
It can be pretty easy to get a lot of fiber without realizing how much you are getting. Just don’t eat a whole bunch and then head out on a long run.
Not that it matters too much, but they do have a higher glycemic index.
Its so…dry.
I don’t get it, are those pretzels making you thirsty?
A nutritionist that I worked with was pretty appalled that I ate craisens every day. Said that it sucked water from my body into my gut. I figured that I could probably just drink a little more if I got thirsty…
But definitely high in fiber. I would avoid before races. Or before dates…

I actually dig dried fruit.
Except coconut, I only like that on cakes and suff.

I get the same thing from French onion soup. The thing that sucks is I REALLY LIKE it. (The soup not the gas.)
So the general consensus is not before runs or races. Cool. Think I’ll hit up whole foods on the way home and create some snack bags…

You know how you like cinnamon raisin bagels?
What exactly do you think raisins are?
Dried mango spears are The Shit… Disadvantages: 1) lotsa simple sugar, and 2) I can’t stop eating ‘em until the whole frickin’ bag is gone.

Well duh, but I don’t think 12 raisins per bagel constitutes a serving of fruit, even if I stretch it.
John
12 raisins in a bagel, huh? Now I want to know how many blueberry there are in the blueberry ones ![]()
On a daily basis, there is nothing wrong. I dehydrate my own, though. A lot of store bought stuff has added salt and sugars, stuff you dont really need. Dehydrating yourself is easy, dirt cheap, and has many uses. I do my own backpacking meals, trail mix, strawberries for cereals, etc.
It does require more fluid from your body to rehydrate the fruit to break it down, so yes, consume with water to aid digestion. That’s really it.
I was just at the dentist this week-the hygenist asked if I ate a lot of dried fruit. I was STUNNED by this as yeah, I do…lots of Lara Bars. She said dried fruit is AWFUL for your teeth and rinse or brush after every serving. I am getting 4 fillings and one root canal next week. I am OFF the lara bars and dried fruit now as I can’t afford it! also she said drinking gatorade is like taking a tablespoon of sugar and swooshing it around your mouth. But really-after what she told me about dried fruit this week, I wont be eating again unless I am about to brush my teeth. It is the WORST thing to eat for your teeth PLUS the glycmic load bad also.
Thanks for that info. I recently started to munch on them all day but will now stop since I like my teeth more than the fruit!

Besides increased methane production, concomitant depletion of the ozone layer, and the subsequent end of life as we know it on this planet, none that I can think of.
That reminds me of the Rice Krispees ad:
"Rice Krispees are made of Rice?
What did you think they were?"
Duh!!
But definitely high in fiber. I would avoid before races. Or before dates…

Bloody dates! Screw up my diet EVERY time.
Pizza for lunch and some toast for dinner. No fruit, no dried fruit, no oatmeal, no nuts.
