Dress the kitty

i’m in a conundrum!

just “tried” on my wetsuit, and boy–it’s a great suit…just not so much on me. maybe it’s too small? it feels tight on my chest and is a little clausterphobic’ery.

i don’t know if that’s normal.

but aside from that: here’s what i got in mind for Little Smokies Half (please help)

-swim in tri shorts with tri top
-T1, stip tri top in favor of full front zipper cycling jersey (it’s easy to put on with full zipper. also has e-gels in pocket)
-T2, strip cycling jersey in favor of running singlet (that’s pink!)

i would just swim in sports bra and shorts, but feel too embarrassed.

this is a difficult course, so i’m not freaking out at my time, just want to have a good day and be prepared…if i need to spend 60 more seconds in transition i’m ok with that (i think). also, my tri top isn’t adequate for the gels; and my boobs are too big to run in it.

thanks for any help or suggestions,
kitty

the wetsuit my loosen up once it gets wet. it may feel a little better after that. you will probably want it for that distance and water temp.

ok, i’m going to try to get there early enough to “practice” in it. i’ve always swam without one, but do see your point!

You lost me right after you said strip in T1
.

Keep going…there’s stuff about boobs further down…

I’m just thinking of some very interesting possibilities, I’m sure others will post!
Thanks for making my day!

The wetsuit will expand when it hits the water. Mine is painted on and it’s hard to breathe a bit on land, but is fine in the water.

Will your outfit match your bike? That’s the most important thing.

ok, i never realized this. i tried it once for 10 minutes–and took it right off to swim in the speedo. that is encouraging.

if i put pam on to make it go on easier, won’t that just cause me to sunburn?

maybe i could just swim in the wetsuit, with sports bra/tri shorts, take the thing off in T1 and continue on with my cycling jersey and singlet plan.

Kitty, why not wear the cycle jersey under the wetsuit and then you won’t have a problem with changing, although that shouldn’t be a problem for a specialist in covert extraction like yourself.

You have THE best profile, I liked the torch singer!

uhm…i will look like a roadie hijacking the course. so, even with matching, i won’t fit in anyway. lol.

it is a sleeveless.

with a full front zipper, i think it will be easy, even with being wet.

my concern now is not suffocating in the wetsuit; and getting the damn thing off! maybe pam makes that easier? (getting it off)

Oh … I did not get that far- now I am really lost…

Don’t Pam yourself- it will ruin the wuit suit.

Now that took some serious concentraion

Jo, is it the wetsuit or jersey that is sleeveless? If the latter no problem, if not then it’s not an option. Go and have a swim in it asap so that you know what it’s like to swim in. Have no fear, you will find it easier to get off when it’s wet.

just use bodyglide. go to the pool tonight and practice.

Put on SPF 50 on at the hotel, then put Body Glide on your ankles. That’s the only point of significant friction. Take your time when you are in T1. It’s a long race and nothing slows you down when taking off a wetsuit like trying to yank it off too quickly.

As for the rest of your garb, I would just wear your whole ensemble under the wetsuit if it’s sleevless. The wet clothes will keep you cooler on what should be an extra hot day.

do you know the race day temp? That makes a difference. A jersey is good because it has pockets for food!

I have put on a jersey comming out of the water wet. It takes an extra minute…just so you know.
I race HIM and IM in cycling shorts, full chamois.

It doesn’t matter if you match, but don’t look like you got dressed blind. There is a fine art to looking like you are not trying.

Practice in the wetsuit. Use the pam. No your skin will not fry. Remember sunscreen. You could wear a one-piece tri suit and put the jersey over it.

Have you been riding in the thinner tri chamois? makes a difference.

Hope this helps!

“if i put pam on to make it go on easier, won’t that just cause me to sunburn?”

    • Huh? what does Pam® have to do with sunburn. And yes, it will get you out of the wetsuit MUCH faster. And NO, it won’t damage the wetsuit.
Wetsuits are meant to fit tight, and they take some getting used to. Try to get an hour or more of practice time and then keep using it periodically until it doesn’t mess with your head anymore.

“maybe i could just swim in the wetsuit, with sports bra/tri shorts, take the thing off in T1 and continue on with my cycling jersey and singlet plan.”

    • Why not just ride and run in the sports bra? Time in transitions can kill your race. Whatever you decide to wear on the run is what you should wear under your wetsuit and then onto the bike - - except for shoes!

Ok I can’t stand it…

You just used the words Strip, Big Boobs, and Pam all in the same thread and still no jokes from the peanut galary it’s killing me.

Oh the possibilities…
